i'm coming up on the end of my warranty service term in about 6 mos. i'm looking at my belt and some of the teeth are a bit chewed up, and there are cracks all over the back of the belt.

now, of course i'm not concerned that the belt is going to whip off the bike while i'm riding or anything, but before my warranty expires i would like to have it replaced.

i was wondering what the criteria was for a dealer to "condemn" a belt and swap it out for a new one under warranty.

It seems to depend on the dealer.

The warranty verbage is "failed" if I recall. Your dealer may argue that the belt has not yet failed because it can still propel the bike forward.

I had a hole in mine that was about 1/3 the width of the belt and the dealer said it was not covered. I called Buell Customer service and asked them if they would head out across Montana with a hole like that in the belt and they agreed that it had "failed" and got my local dealer to replace it.

Ask your dealer nicely and good luck to you.

I had one replaced under waarranty. It snapped in half. Just before than ,will for 3 month. I noticed the belt was getting loose, about one inch of up and down play. So if the belt is tight its fine, if it getting loose, its going to fail. Mine failed at 20,500 miles. So much for a life time belt !!!!

The dealer will only replace it if its failed, you know not a circle anymore

Just had my 06 belt break 20 miles after I got it out of the dealer for 20k service (22.1k specific). Cracked the throttle to check out the traction on a gravel road, and it propelled me up the hill and the belt laid out in the road.

Called the three dealers in the Atlanta area, and only a BadWeb sponsor, Stone Mtn HD-B, had one. Replaced w/o any trouble and tested the 1125 while waiting. I want that as #2. Great work and thanks again to Stone Mtn. I've found my new dealer when I move here for good.

Just had mine snap with 9700 miles on the clock. Now I'm arguing with dealer from work on my cell trying to get it covered under warranty. Called CS and they are gonna try to get someone to research it and call me hopefully tonight. I'm 1yr and 2 months into my warranty and the dealer says its not a warranty item.

Between the fork seals, the rear shock, the wheel bearings and now this, all in less than 10000 miles I wont be riding this bike very far from home.

Wife picked up the bad belt and went in to the dealer. She voiced some displeasure and they replaced it under warranty. About an hour later I got a call back from CS who claimed that she talked to a tech who said they were not a covered item and they hadn't heard of any failures! She didn't know what to say when I told her that the dealer covered it.

I guess I have a misunderstanding. I thought the Uly had a 2 year warranty but that the belt had a lifetime warranty essentially.

The belt is covered by the standard 2 year warranty. They call it a lifetime belt because it does not have a service interval like the older belts. It just gets replaced in the rare event of a break.
