"So...how did it handle in the gravel ?
We are planning on running this road in Sept."

We went the long way round to the Lab Highway.

The road from Blanc Sablon to Cartwright was perfect. I was passing my friend on the DRZ400 in the straights (50-60mph) I'd slow it down for the turns though. I was running stock pirelli scorps. They were OK... I was super pumped for GooseBay, thinking that it'd be a breeze...

The road from Goose Bay to The Manic 5 Dam is not so great to say the least.. As soon as you get out of Goose Bay, the road is loose and sandy. I have a good amount of dirt experience and let me tell you that the 17inch front just floats. I was fighting it the whole time at about 15mph. When I thought the road was clear I'd wick it up a bit, but prob not over 35.
It was a miserable f'kin experience. Find a knobby for the front. Use a TKC80 rear or something lol...

Watch the edges of the road. For 2 reasons.
1) I pulled over to stop and touched the rear brake and low and behold there was sand and whoosh! bye bye! That's the only time I binned it (except when the side stand broke)

2) The road gives out sometimes, so be careful. The truck in the ditch is proof. They usually have signs that indicate it, but just watch it.

WATCH FOR GRADERS! I hit the wake of dirt and almost lost it (My own fault, I wanted to go through it : D ) don't drive through the wake.

How much damage did the rock do to the belt? Did you eventually replace it?

Great pictures, thanks!

Never changed the belt, it took a good hunk out of it. You can put your thumbnail in it a few mm deep.

I abuse her, clutchin up 2nd gear wheelies which stress that belt a lot and nothing yet. If it lasts to 25000miles I'll change it : D

Thanks for the belt feedback.

That tipped over Semi is wild. I bet the driver was browning the seat when that happened. I wouldn't want to call in that problem to the home office.

Figured it. As much as I love my Uly and as comfortable as it is for hours on end, this doesn't look like the Uly's kinda road. ( I'll just put a better seat on the XR, enjoy it less but with fewer hospital bills )

Tks for the feedback, we've been having a "disagreement" over this.

Spectacular pictures - thanks for sharing them. One of these days I'm going to have to make my own foray into Nova Scotia and NE Canada.
