Just curious, how's the mileage been on your Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires??

The bike has just under 2k miles now, and the rears have significant wear.

i have 3k on mine, the rear is starting to show some wear......just a bit, I can see the center beginning to look flat compared to the rest of the tire.... I commute everyday with mine....

In the official Tire data thread, I had started to question whether the wear on my Scorpion Syncs was normal or not, at a little over 3k, I am down to the wear bars in the center of the tire. And that is running them at factory pressures. 36 rear, 34 front.

Yeah, I just bumped mine up to 40R/38F based on my wear pattern (flat center) and what I've read. I'm 250# + gear

Mostly touring - very little sport!

Mostly sport - very little touring, and mine lasted 3,600 ok, with another 500 safe enough on them think.
All depends on road surface though.

I'm going to change the rear only and try bumping my pressure up a bit and see if it wears better, if not I'm changing to Michelins or Continentals.

the syncs are also on the sticky side, so they'll wear faster, correct?

I have been running the Syncs for three years now. They came stock on my '05 City-X. I ran that bike 13,000 miles in a year an a half and got 6000 miles out of the rears and still had the original front on it when I sold it.

The '06 Uly came with the D616's and I got 6,000 out of the rear and 15,000 on the front. Those tires were not my cup of tea, they wondered, slipped out on damp corners, cupped real bad, and the front wore diamond shaped across the middle and had a large "hump" from the road tread to the side wall, as they wore.

I replaced the rear with a Scorpion Sync and have done so at every 6,000 miles since. I put the Sync on the front and they last 10,000 miles for me.

My Uly is now at 26,500 miles. That is for the rear, at 6,000 miles each: one D616, and I am about half way through my fourth rear Sync.

On the front; one D616, and my second Sync is nearly new.

Backroad_hog - do you wear out the sides first? If you bump up the pressure the middle bit will just wear sooner.

Spacecapsule - They are not that sticky at the end of the day, most sports bike tyres are stickier and last about the same (or in the case of conti road attacks; a lot longer).

Trust me on this, if you like sync's, you will love the road attack - stickier, better wearing (by a lot), and even look better...

I went through 3 syncs in 23,000 miles...which had been a pretty consistent 7,500 miles per rear. But I do take them down a little past the wear bar.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get 6000-7000 miles out of a rear Sync IF I can go that long without fatally wounding one.

Original tire- at ~4500 miles ran over a 2"x2"x1/4" slab of steel in the road and gashed the tire. 2nd tire- at ~3500 miles picked up a nail or something and didn't notice it until ~15 miles of running it flat. Got ~250 more miles out of the tire but the plug blew out and it wouldn't hold plugs after that.

I changed the front tire at 8500 miles. I could have probably gotten 10k out of it, but I wanted fresh tires front and rear for MBV.

I do love the Syncs!

I've been running Syncs on my 12S.
First set: got about 4500 miles.

The second set the rear got 4800 miles, the front was probably good for another 500 but I changed it with the rear (like I always do)

Third, current set: 3800 miles and the front tire is almost done. It's actually wearing out faster than the rear. The rear is good for maybe 400 or 500 more miles.

I think there might have been a problem with the last batch because they sure wore out a lot quicker than the first two sets and my riding habits have remained the same.

I got just over 7,500 on my back tire. Front still going, appears I'll be able to get about 10,000 on it.

At 3600 mi, the Syncs look good. I'm expecting 6k to 7k from the current look of things.

I rode 6500 miles on the original rear, replaced it with another sync. We took a trip to death valley two-up and loaded for camping of about 1600 miles. That tire was wasted in 3000 miles. I am still on the original front at 9550 and will probably change it around the ten thousand mark. I run the factory recommended pressures.

Anyone see in merit in "Ride-on"'s claim that their sealant keeps the tire cooler and makes them last longer?

Coming up on 5,000 miles on 08 Uly. Starting to get into the wear bars so will change the rear tire within the next 500 miles before our big trip end of June.

I have tried stock pressure, and I have tried reduced pressure. I found wear bars at 3500 and after a little over a week of commuting (160 miles a day) at 4500 miles I have to change my oil and my rear tire

Bigkuri,
My rear Sync needs changing very soon,I'll more than likely be taking your lead and fitting the Road Attack.

The front Dunslop has worn strangely (as described above) but still handles ok for me not to worry about changing it until it's dead-although I do look forward to having a decent tire up front to remove the high speed weave and I know I'll wish I'd done it earlier.

The rear Sync has been fine for me but I fancy change.(It's lasted a very similar length of time to the Dunslop which was on there from new,I've covered 13,000 miles so it's 6500 miles per tire for me.)

My last two rear Syncs 6800/7000.Run stock suggested tire pressures 34/36psi.I also had 18497 on the front tire change.I like the Syncs.Fair off road (don't go off road a lot but will occasionally) and stick well in rain and dry yet some tar strips seem to lose a little traction but not enough to lose control.I change and balance my own tires.(Nomar) That way I keep a good check on wheel bearings.
My 2cents,

I have a few miles shy of 3000 on my 08 and I'm getting ready to order new tires. Running stock pressure, the rear started cupping so I increased the pressure to 40-38. I live in Appalachia and the roads can be bad in places. I'm down to the wear bars on the rear and the sides of the front are wearing.

Do I order some new Distanza's or one rear sync?

The syncs are great on the street and my chicken strips are all the way to the end on the rear. The Uly goes around our mountain curves like a cat on velcro.

I don't want to loose that kind of performance, BUT, I'd like to get more miles before a tire change. Maybe I should paw paw ride. NAH!

Any feedback on the Stradda's?

Conchop, regarding the Distanzias, I have heard that the mileage is not as good as with the Scorpions. The Distanzia rear (and maybe front) is a supermoto compound. Using the thumbnail comparison between the new Distanzia rear and Scorpion rear with about 2000 miles (and four holes), the Distanzia did seem to be a bit softer.

I only have a few hundred miles on mine, so I have no personal input as to the durability of the Distanzia tires. However, with the way these tires feel on pavement, and the way they work off road, I am willing to lose a few miles. If I was not the kind of person to play in the dirt with my Uly I think my opinion about lower mileage would be different. The Scorpions and Distanzias offer very similar road manners, with the Distanzias seeming to fall into a corner a bit more.

I have noticed that I have absolutely zero chicken strips on the rear with the Distanzia tires. I had maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch with the Scorpions. I think this may be due to the Distanzia being a 160 width instead of the 180 of the Scorpion. The profile is just a little flatter, making it easier to find the edge of the tire.

I think overall driving habits have a lot to do with tire wear. Most of all were you live makes a big factor also, rough tar gravel roads ,super hot high humid summers, long highway rides(Super slab).Z rated tires don't tour well.My advice,be aware of how much engine breaking, hard down shifts,Jack Rabbit starts that you are doing. If you are doing all three all the time, well there goes your tire wear. You will replace tires more often than brake pads.Try to use brakes instead of engine braking all the time.Use it when you need it,brakes, engine.
Also,go back to the basics, keep constant check on tire pressures daily.I have the same problem that every Buell owner has,(Ulysses especially)I love to twist the throttle and wheelie a few times. That may contribute to longer front tire life.
What ever brand tire you use these suggestions will make some difference if you apply them with discipline.
Well,thats my 2cents,Ride safe.
