Just got my wife an 04 Wee Strom. I really like my Uly but Suzuki has it beat in a few areas for the type of riding that we do. (before you flame me, we ride 300 plus miles in a day often for multiple days. I put 8,000 miles on the Uly in 4 months before the roads iced up)

Wind protection: The Wee has a Givi screen fitted to the stock brackets. No buffeting, noise, or bugs on the face shield. This is the biggest complaint I have with the Uly. I run the ZG screen and while the wind does not bother me as much, the noise does. This is not an ear plug problem (I wear them) or a helmet problem. The factory should have an option/solution for this. I have been researching and will find a fix!

Headlights: The Wee has two nice bright lights that are always lit up. No need to add extra driving lights. I have the both lights on mod plus driving lights. These are for daytime safety as much as at night.

Fuel gauge: Wee has a gauge plus 2 trips. Uly needs a gauge or 3 trips and/or 2 displays.

Fuel capacity: Not normally an issue but as we start traveling off the beaten path gas is not always available. Wee is like 5.5 gallons (can not remember the exact amount) and she got 60 mpg on the first 320 mile ride. I got 50 mpg so am not complaining about the difference in mpg.

Once again, I am not knocking the Uly and I know that it is sold to many different types of riders but for what I use the bike for I would like to see some factory fixes. Others complained about the steering lock which is not an issue for me but the factory listened and changed it for 08. We like Buells and the Uly is our 3rd one. Got her the Wee Strom because it fits her the best for the type of riding that we do.

I'm sure that you could sell the Uly for more then enough to get a Wee strom

I agree with you that the Uly's range and wind protection leave much to be desired but the Uly beats the Wee in lots of areas too. Just depends on what turns you on and what is most important to you.

Already sold a Buell to buy the Wee Strom and yes it was better in a lot of areas. Once again, not knocking the Uly or planning to sell it. If the issues were addressed for us, the wife may be riding a Buell again.

I just sold my 650 wee Strom for the Buell. Helmet buffeting was a major issue for me that I could never get fixed even with different screens. I think the windscreen was just too far from the rider. Overall it was a great bike with decent power and of course your typical silky smooth Suzuki gearbox. As you said before the headlights were probably the best I've ever had on any bike but they weren't much to look at. Function over form I guess.

The Buell has more power, obviously, and much better brakes and suspension. Handling is better and there are way more tire options.

Both are great bikes IMO. I guess I feel a bit more proud on my new Buell since it's my first ever American motorcycle. It has its quirks which I like to call character.

Some of us ride motorcycles for the visceral experience. To me the wind, rain, heat, cold are all part of the experience. I may complain about all of the above, but they let me know I am alive.

I don't hide from it, I embrace it for what it is.

If I didn't like it I would just go ahead and drive the Town and Country.

Again that is why there is more than one manufacture. I don't think Buell got it wrong. It just isn't the right bike for you.

I've had a DL650 and now an 08 Uly, the Buell by far is the better bike for me. I loved the Wee for it's range and cool operation in the summer heat but for handling and performance the Uly is top notch. Once loaded with fuel the Wee can be top heavy and slow to respond in low speed handling, but for those that don't mind or can deal with it the Wee is a marvelous machine.
Once I had put a few miles on the Uly I knew I would never be satisfied with another bike. The way it flicks around turns and the way it responds almost telepathically to my commands is awesome.

Also did I mention the laser cannon? ; )}

Lost in Ohio regarding the first part of your post,
I could not have said it better myself. I have tried to put forth these exact sentiments but have never combined the words like you have. Nicely done.
