I'm digg'n that look!!! on a black ULY it would look very MAD MAX.
Looks like the same front and rear. The lower fairing and mud guard had to come off. Looks to save money in the long run just swap the front with the rear when it get worn. I think I'll try a set just for fun.

Now it looks like a adventure bike....maybe (hint..hint) somebody who works at the factory can get the idea of what a uly needs to look like. Oh, some spoked wheels next please....

The info is all in the thread linked but..front is a 130 rear 150 and he had to shave lugs off the forks as well as what you mentioned.}

A Uly with knobbies is a lot like doing this:

I put "serious" knobbies on my KLR-250, and the road behavior did not get much worse at all (much to my suprise). Traction is still pretty good, wet or dry, and I don't get that much more vibration.

When you get it leaned WAY over turning hard, the knobbies "walk" because they are so tall, but don't really slide. So the bike just feels like it is running a bit wide... but you just adjust to it naturally since turning on a dirt bike changes your wheelbase by some huge amount anyway (which also changes the way it turns).

I have Kenda Trackmaster II's on the KLR, which are barely street legal. I believe knobbies are typically REALLY soft rubber relative to street tires, so even though you get less rubber on the road, the rubber that is there is a lot stickier...

Wonder how long those are gonna last on a Uly...

I bet they are just as good as the D616 are in the mud.

This is why there is a Husky next to the DRZ next to my Uly in the garage...

If only I could ride off road worth a $#@! I'd feel worthy. : )

Looks cool to me...I imagine it's not that bad on the road. My klx250s has Dunlop 606 knobbies, and it's ok to ride on the road-just louder. Slides and squirms a bit more than street tires but ok once you accept that and don't freeze up expecting a lowside or something. The Uly looks a lot like a BMW GS-Adventure that way, and folks ride those, well, everywhere except the mx track. It's still a lot lighter than the GS too. Can you imagine, if the TKC's were available in a 160 or 170? I'm looking fwd to hearing a ride report

Found this looking around seeing what how long these tires last.

from http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/TireOpinionsFAQ.htm#conti nental

Hi. I don't remember who asked me the question (either here or via e-mail) but as I always strive to get people info/valid answers I forwarded the question up the appropriate ladder... The question here was if they could run a TKC80 rear on a front rim. I guess for different applications or whatever they wanted to do. I didn't care WHY they wanted to do it I just cared in getting them some answers to IF they could do it. So here's the response from the rep/people at Continental (the makers of the TKC80).
David - I just got off the phone with one of our technicians in Germany and got the straight scoop. You can run any Conti rear tire as a front, but you must observe the following; Rotation Direction: 1) Some Conti's will have directional arrows for both front and rear application which must be followed. 2) If a Conti tire only has a direction arrow for rear application (directional arrow will be marked as drive or rear), the rotation direction must be reversed for front application. Performance: 1) A tire designed for rear application will have a flatter contour than a tire designed for front use. Thus, steering will not be as sharp. 2) The compound used on a front specific tire will offer about 30% more grip than a tire designed for rear application. This is due to the fact that a rear tire has a different set of demands, i.e., must deliver power, mileage, etc... I want to give a big THUMBS UP to Greg Reich and the other fine people at Continental Tire for taking the time to listen to such questions from the marketplace and doing the necessary legwork/research to get us some answers back.

i just found that pirelli is making a Scorpion Trail tire, the listed size might be better for the front?

PIRELLI SCORPION TRAIL 120/90S-17 REAR

same as TKC80 for the rear;

PIRELLI SCORPION TRAIL 150/70VR-17 REAR

nobody has a pic yet! not even at pirelli's website!
