i know a lot has been said in comparison and i know most of the updates for 08. on that note, i am buying a new bike this summer in time for homecoming. i talked to my dealer and he has an 07 in stock that he will add hard bags and a tank bag to, for $13,350.00 OTD. He also stated that an 08 would be $2000.00 more similarly equipped. So my question is....are the upgrades (steering, oil pump, ecm etc) really worth the $2k premium? hopefully i will hear from some who have ridden and/or owned both. i don't have a problem changing the trees to get the steering upgrade, but the others are most likely not easily upgradeable to 08 specs.

my thoughts so far are that it would be worth $2k to get the more robust oil pump assy and the trees.

thoughts???

I think the upgrades make the '08 worth $2k more than the '07. And while I'm all for supporting your local dealer and all that, those prices seem a bit high to me.

I would first politely tell your dealer (concerning those prices) "You must be smoking crack."

I would then go for the '07 in a heartbeat if it were still a 2k difference. While I realize there are many here who would disagree with this, the fact remains that my "inferior" oil pump on my "BADASS" 07 has little (or, I submit nothing) to do with overall rideability or performance.
Now everyone can chime in and school me on the vast cooling improvements and etc, but IMHO it's just not worth it.

By the way, you may try informing your dealer that those bags will be coming free with the 07. I know this trick to have worked at least once.

Sleez,
That seems way too much for an 07 with bags. Maybe 11,500 OTD. The 08's are the new bikes and the 07's are bikes they need to deal to move them.

Unless tax is like $5k in CA, tell him to take a hike. You can negotiate a brand new XB12XT for that price. As for a $2k price difference between 07 and 08, I say yes its worth it.

sleez, good luck on what ever your decision is. the standard was to tall for me when i test road one but the xt is just right for me so that's why i'm getting the 08 friday. i don't think the 07 is that bad of a deal out the door especially for california. what ever you get, you'll like it up there where your at none the less. one day i'll be back out there.

FWIW, I paid $9,999 in Nov. '07 for a brand new '07 w/out bags.

My OTD price was $10,700, which included a 6.5% county sales tax.

Got my 07' in Oct for 11,700 OTD w/3 hard bags + tank bag. Those prices do seem high to me.

Do not understate the convenience and comfort of the steering lock increase. I know, some say its no big deal, but I can whip my '08 around just like my KLR at slow speed. Previous years always seemed a bit clumsy due to steering lock.

It can be retro fitted...but add that expense, + heated grips, TPS resets and you are quickly into that $2K difference by a bit...also consider timing that can be finicky, first gen stator and voltage regulators...

Both are reportedly good bikes, but I went 2008 as I trust Buell's evolution of their product, and do not regret the extra $$$$ spent. Only shortcoming for '08 seems to be fuel mileage, but I am turning 40'ish on my last 2 tanks (only 850 miles on it)...acceptable by my standards.

Keep shopping, though; I didn't pay close to that for my '08

The 08 Trees can easily be fitted to the 06-07 Uly, and they do make a big difference.

And as far as the TPS reset, a homemade or $40 cable from a fellow Badwebber and a free download will take care of that (and much more if you dare). I also added heated grips. Again, while I concur that the improvements on the 08 are notable, the ones you can actually FEEL can be had for far less. Either way, you'll love this bike. Good luck!

That would be the way to go. Your People's Republic of Kalifornia dealers are insulated from the competition because you can't buy a new bike out of state and title it there.

well it looks like $13k OTD with all the goodies i want is the best i can do. all others are over $14k for the same bike.

hopefully will have the 08 this weekend!

True only for 49 state bikes. And either way CA gets their tax in form of a "Use Tax", which is calculated same as sales tax.
Nevada for sure sells CA spec bikes.
Bought my '06 from from a guy that lived in Fallon Nv.

There are exceptions to the rule; but by the time you play the games to circumvent the rules. You are better off just getting one in state. Performance wise there is no difference, except for weight of charcoal canister and plumbing.

Thanks.

Yeah, we'll see if it's "just as described" when I get it. His feedback is great, so I assume it will be.

Probably going to get it shipped. $275 to my HD dealer here in NJ. 3 business days. And they even CRATE it. It would cost more than that for gas in my 8.1 silverado. No, can't "fly in and ride it home" as I really don't have the time right now...

But I can't wait to mod it out! Full cases and Garmin Zumo 550 are at the top of the list! : )

Oh, and just for the archives/search (since the ebay link will only work for 90 days or so):

It's a stock 2007 with 494mls. Buy it now was $7995, but they accepted an offer of $6995. Carolina Harley.

I thought long and hard about getting an 08, but there were no preowned ones to speak of available, nor did I get the "feeling" that any dealers would really give me a good deal right now (late summer I'm sure would be a better time for that).

I realize the 08's have some great revisions, but I think I'll be happier saving $4-$5k right now.

...and who knows what the 09's will have in store?? Hmmm...
