I found a replacement key! Call your local locksmith and ask them if they have any ILCO X270 key blanks. If they do, ride your Uly down there and have them cut one key from yours out of the X270 blank.
Al at A-1 Locksmith Service cut the key, went to the bike to ops check it. It didn’t work at first. He took the key and had another go of it on the machine and viola, the key worked. When I asked him what he did to get it to work the second time, he explained that it just needed to be cut a little deeper…it was real easy for him.
Here’s where it gets interesting. I had a choice of two keys to use! They actually had a listing for the Buell in their books and offered me a key that looked like a generic version of the blue, Pegasus key, or for a buck less, the X270. I like my keys to be slim and light, so I opted for the X270. I may even lighten it and/or slim down the head to make it more compact. It cost me $5.70 for two. Now, what am I going to do with the money I saved?

Thanks for the update. Did he take a shot at the luggage key? I had a locksmith try a couple of different blanks with no luck.

I didn't have the saddlebags on the bike at the time due to one of the latches having broke. He did think that he had something that looked like it would work; however, I told him that I'd bring a latch lock to the store for him to work with. I'll let you all know what I find out.

Great info Busykat!

Is your Ilco key steel? I've used Ilco blanks for Audi keys but they're brass. I don't know what the stock Buell key's made of but it seems pretty strong.

The fuel cap takes a bit of torque, the Ilco Audi key can bend if coerced... how's yours?

Hey Busykat,

I went to the locksmith this AM and he had the ILCO X270 without the plastic top - works great! Thank you for the tip.

Nice one BusyKat,
It's always good when people post a follow-up report,I've stored that in 'My favorites' in case it's of any use in the future.

It's a debit card Bross. I got more info for you all. I went back to A-1 Locksmith today to let them have a go of the Hepco-Becker saddlebag keys, and I'm really glad I did. As it turns out, the factory key was about to break! It’s hard to see in the attachment, but if you look at the tip of the factory key, you’ll see that it fractured and bent inward. This of course led to difficulty in unlocking the bags. I don’t know how long this has been going n; I bought the Uly w/ almost 5K on it and it was always a bit difficult to insert the key into the locks of the saddlebags. Was it the key making the lock difficult, or was it the lock breaking the key? Chicken or egg?
I thought for sure that I’d have to order a new key; however, he said he got it! I asked him how he made a functioning key from a bad key. He said he took the lock cylinder apart and read the tumblers, hence a $12.50 charge. No substitute for experience and I'm still bucks ahead.
The key that he used is an Ilco 1637. So, here’s the 411 on the part numbers:
Buell ignition keys:
The look a-like key w/ a blue plastic head is a SILCA ZD23RCP, (it’s made in Italy)
The all metal, regular key is an Ilco X270
The key for the Hepco-Becker is an Ilco 1637

Again, go to a locksmith, not a hardware store or dept store.

Info gleaned from the Ilco website:

This is key information here, and it appears that Busykat has a lock on all of it - has it all locked down for us - he's on key with it, really - its the keystone of Uly keys and we're gettin' all keyed up because of it.

Just picked up a spare key for my '06 Uly, thanks for posting this. When I bought it, it only had one key - not good. Now I have some piece of mind. Thank you! -Ed
