Anyone install an aftermarket air filter notice any difference other than the weight reduction from the wallet?

K&N.
It should last forever 'cos you can remove it and wash it.

As Bigkuri says it sounds different at tickover and accelerating at lower speeds (can't hear it after that due to wind and exhaust.).

Edit: Meant to say that you'd need to run it on a dyno before and after fitting it to tell much difference performance wise-could be worth a little bit.

Not to pick on K&N or any other aftermarket washables, but there was a thread about air filter efficiency on this or another site that was pretty in-depth and revealing. The test is done by weighing a clean filter then passing a large volume of air through it with a measured amount of fine dirt while tracking restriction across the filter. Afterward the filter is re-weighed. Obviously the heaviest filter trapped the most dirt. As I recall stock type paper elements were the most efficient at trapping dirt. They didn't always flow the most air, but high flow usually allowed more dirt ingestion. Cylinders, rings, pistons and oil HATE dirty air.

But they like air: ) The more the better, if you add fuel. I ran a K&N on my twin turbo 3000gt for 130k mi, no problems.

Keep it clean. Wash and oil to specs and you will be fine.* How many million have they sold?

I never really cared for K&N's until I started to run one on my Uly. They do get dirty, but you can clean them. At 10k miles my stock air filter was almost plugged all the way through. With the K&N now, I can clean and reoil it every 5k miles... I don't think I would want to be spending the money on a sock filter every 5k miles....

Advantage K&N....
