Been looking at Uly's all winter. Dealers have 08's and new 07's with the full 2 year warranty. Trying to decide whether to go with the 08, 07, or perhaps just start out with a 06 (less $, see if I like it).

Any thoughts on the different model years? Dealers up here are fidgety about test riding their bikes with all the salt that is still on our roads from winter, so it's been sort of hard to decide.

Thanks, Mike

I'd spring for the '08. There is enough improvements in the '08 to justify the additional cost.

You can still get a deal on an '08 the discounts simply won't be as deep as the left over models.

Personally, I don't believe dealerships that still have '06's on the floor are trying to sell Buells. Unless they got an ungodly allotment, someone, somewhere would have walked in and shown interest in a motorcycle and might have been a candidate for a Uly and would have just happened to make them some sort of a workable deal.

I can't see the logic of any dealership having a leftover model beyond May of the new model year.

All the changes to the 07 can be easily fitted to the 06. The 08's have engine changes that can not be fitted onto earlier bikes, and fork changes that can, with some work, be put on earlier models.

It's hard to answer your question w/o numbers. There isn't anything wrong with any of the models. The 08 is better than the 06, but I've seen new 06s going for $8500, in which case I'd take the 06.

Uke's wouldn't have an '06 leftover. They currently have ONE '07 Uly and ONE '08 Uly listed in inventory.

They KNOW how to sell Buells. The dealer I had to BEG to buy a Uly from doesn't even have an '06.

06's are out there but you gotta look. My dealer sold the last one last week. I did call I think New Mexico and they had 3-4 new 06's left.

I got a great deal on my '07 from the dealer as a Buell demo bike with 470 miles - $7500. Then I added heated grips and all the luggage, extended warrantee and GAP insurance. Good bikes are out there, you just have to look for them.

all things being equal, get the '08....but, it really depends on the price differential. if its say, a $3k difference so you can turn tighter radii, and not have to reset the TPS, to my way of thinking, that’s total nonsense. i know, i know, there are other improvements, as well, but they're not all that noticeable, when riding the bike.

I recently was in the same boat...went 2008.

The difference for me was ~$1K, so it seemed like a no brainer after heated grips, and some of the hassles that can be had w/ TPS resets and timing...and I like blue

There are several dealers w/ 2006's and '07's, though...call around or check cycle trader

I have an 2006 XB12X and I love it but keep in mind the depreciation value when thinking about buying a motorcycle, if you plan on riding it and not trading it for a long time (like me), then I would consider the lower price motorcycle for your best value.

Ukes hasn't had a 2006 Uly for a long time since I bought one of his last ones in May 2006. He does have a 2007 Blue one in stock! Thats right a blue one. Someone wanted a 2008 black Uly and he only had a blue one so the switched out the plastics with a 2007 model.

If your looking for a 2006 model, you might try Lake Shore HD / Buell in Libertyville, Il, See Kevin Kemin there, they had 15 back in 2006 and the sales manager took them off the front showroom floor to make room for other motorcycles and the last I heard they still had a couple 2006 left. Kevin is a good guy that knows Buells inside out since he use to work for Buell in the R&D department in East Troy.

As stated by several others, it is a tough decision. When I wasn't looking the Uly, I ended up with an '07... we were actually returning a battery for disposal and I thought I would just see how much the '08 was, next thing you know they tell me they'll make me a deal on the '07 they have... I factored in luggage and tall windscreen and realized I was probably only going to be the only owner and went with the '07. But it was really price driven in my case. I think I would be happy with either. I am very pleased so far with the '07.

Just bought an '06 from Ray Price in Raleigh, NC. I think they have a few '06 and '07 left. Ask for Jordan. This list might be a little dated.
