Is it possible to download one of American Sport Bike's MAPs to the stock ECM without the MAP key using ECMSpy? I have a Special Ops muffler with a K&N filter with an 07 air box. (06 Uly) I'm not trying to cheat anyone, but if I don't have to spend the extra cash, I'd rather not.

Thanks

That's why keys exists in the first place... for people who are not trying to cheat anyone, they just don't want to spend the extra cash.

Hi Treadmarks, Johnboy777 and Gunter,

Thanks for taking the time to help me in understanding this! I now feel more comfortable in tweaking the idle numbers.
Gunter has made a fantastic tool for us and deserves a big thank you!

Is it possible to download one of American Sport Bike's MAPs to the stock ECM without the MAP key using ECMSpy?

The short answer (from American Sport Bike) is no. I had the same question prior to buying one of Al's maps. While in theory, the values would be the same, there would more than likely be software incompatibility problems which could royally screw things up. Now, even if an American Sport Bike map could be pushed into the ECM vis ECMspy, cutting American Sport Bike out of that deal would be unethical and unfair. The maps from the sponsors are developed by them flogging their own bikes to death on the Dyno, so we don't have to. I know I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but the official word from Al Lighton is no American Sport Bike maps via ECMspy (it's simply not the platform they're using). Hope that answers your question.

Josh

Thanks Josh. That's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

I'm still confused about the purchased MAP thing. If one bought the MAP legitimately and used ECMSpy (if it was possible) to download it, how would that be unethical? Is it a case of not buying the software? Not planning on doing it, just curious.

I believe that you can purchase the map from American Sport Bike and then send them your ecm...and Al can load it for you without you purchasing direct link software. Then you can still tweak that map with ECM Spy if you would like. But always save a copy of the original maps as a backup before tweaking.

TREAD:

WHATS GOING ON MY FRIEND.
ANY HELP I MAY ASSITS IN HERE.

AS GUNTER SAYS ITS CLOSED LOOP IT WILL CORRECT TO A POINT AS I DO MOVE THOSE CELLS . JUST AS I SET THE TPS TO HIGHLIGHT THE LOWER ROW AND MOVE IT UP TILL IT ON THE SECOND ROW THEN BACK DOWN TILL ITS JUST LIGHTING THE LOWER CELLS.

THIS WORKS BUT YOU DO NEED MORE FUEL. AS THE FUEL TARGET IS STIOCH IN THOSE CELLS AND IF YOU READ THE FUEL WITH A ANILIZER ITS TOO LEAN FROM THE FACTORY AT 15.4 AVERAGE I FIND SO ADDIND A LITTLE FUEL ACTUALLY BRINGS IT UP TO STIOCH WHERE IT SHOULD BE. IF YOU GO TO HIGH YOU WILL KNOW THE BIKES BRAIN WILL LOWER THE FUEL AUTOMATICLY THEN YOU GET THE STUMBLE OFF THE LINE.

WILD STUFF THE ECM IS. ITS FICKLE AND SOME TIMES DARN RIGHT STUBURN TO MINUPLATE. BUT I CAN DO IT. AS WELL AS MANY MANY OTHERS.

HERE TO HELP WITH MY WILD OUT SIDE THE BOX WAYS.

AS MANY KNOW ASK TREAD. ITS WIERD AND NOT HOW SOME SAY IT IS POSSIBLE TO WORK BUT I HAVE A SYSTEM I USE AND ITS PROVED ITSELF OVER MANY TIMES TO WORK.

AS TREAD USES THE XOPTIMAP I MADE HIM FOR MORE POWER THAN HE HAS EVER GOT FROM THE DIRECTLINK MAPS HE BOUGHT.

ITS BAD A FREE MAP AND A FREE SYSTEM CAN OUT THE OTHER SYSTEM.

FOR THE SWEET STUFF GET WINOLS DEMO AND THE EVC FILES AND LEARN IT WELL ALL THE DATA IS THERE.
THEN ON YOUR DATA LOGS OPEM THEN UP IN EXCEL AND LOOK AT THE O2 (EGO O2) ON ECMSPY I BELIEVE YOUR MAIN TARGET CELLS FOR STOICH WILL BE AS BELOW AND YOUR TARGET POWER WILL BE AS BELOW ALSO. READ THE CHART LEARN IT AND MEMORIZE IT. ITS A TUNERS BIBLE ON SETTINGS OF O2 OUTPUT IN VOLTAGE.

Gauge READING FULL THROTTLE AIR/FUEL RATIO
.000 17.0:1
.100 17.0:1
.200 16.0:1
.300 15.5:1
.400 15.0:1
.500 14.7.0:1 STIOCH VERY VERY LEAN (ENGINE WILL BE HOT)
.600 REAL Lean 14.6:1
.700 Getting lean 14.5:1
.800 Max power(Lean) normally aspirated 14.2:1
.875 Max Power normally aspirated }
.900 Max Power (Rich) (NOS,blower,Turbo) 13.0:1
1.000 Very Rich 12.2:1

+1 on Gunter too, excellent tool. It's been nice here so I got to take her out a bit, got to a couple of tanks through her...and some of our near spring roads. Concur with XOPTI, there's much to learn, but that for me is part of the fun!
BTW, I did my 15k at S&P in Marietta (just to see if there was any big gotchas before warranty pooped out), the guys don't see many Buells but are nice fellas. Got some baseline data too....

Ken
