Hi, Clive (Muppet),
thanks for the good feedback and it was nice to actually meet you and see another Ulysses - I've never seen another outside a dealer before!
You are the first to get my Touring-Pack' of accessories
Hope to meet again at Brooklands next weekend.

I only live a few miles away, just the other side of Colchester

Same as you, have never seen another Ulysses on the road

Will not make it to next weekends jaunt to Brooklands, due to family commitments

Will also miss the Black Bear anniversery bash, but then I will be in the Caribean so there is a good reason!

JohnBoy777, I just purchased a new Tall screen. It does have a little flip on it. See the picture above. I am wondering if I got an old style or if its just a smaller flip? In looking at the ZeroG pictures, there is absolutely no flip.

What am I doing wrong with these photo uploads?

Strada, badweb dosen't use UBB coding like all other places. The trick you want is:

\ imagelink{http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r87/Strada_phot os/P1010271.jpg}

Take out the space after the backslash and your good to go.

I went for a 150 mile ride with the Buell Tall Screen - normal install - no brackets yet.

I wore earplugs. It was a nicer ride then without the Screen, and with the earplugs the extra noise from the non clean air hitting my helmet was not bothersome. But I miss listening to the growl of the VTwin when I roll on the power.

I ran the freeway at 80 MPH in mixed traffic for about 20 miles. Much more comfortable then with the wind pressure on my shoulders. - Although I was getting a little pressure, the screen does not totally hide me.

It was cold out there. Mid 50's (Hey - its a wet cold). Ran my grips most of the time.

Not sure what you're doing wrong but we can copy and paste what you've posted and view the pics that way.

Any of you UK Ulyboys going to Brooklands from North of London?
Fancy meeting at High Beach before riding to Box Hill (for 09:00-09:30)to meet the majority of Buellists on their way to Brooklands?

It sounds like someone knows some decent roads from Box Hill to Brooklands. There was also talk of dropping in at the Ace on the way home too.

Either way,I look forward to meeting y'all in person next weekend.

Looks like baby wipes for these little road emergencies.

Fubar's right but not for emergencies. I use them to clean my helmet visor when it's full of flies and I can't see anymore. As I do about 5 European trips a year I thought I'd add a big pot to save running out!

Ha! I wondered if it was but I couldn't work out why, thank you.

I saw an alternative solution on someones Tuber at Brooklands on Sunday.
It was a tennis ball with the top cut off mounted on the handlebar, inside was a wet sponge-I've seen a similar idea on a BMW before,it's a good idea,I've thought about it in the past and the tennis ball is odd looking enough for me to fit one on Ulyrat.

I like the idea of being able to clean the visor as you ride, especially when you get a particularly large insect which spills its yellow guts directly in your line of sight.

On long rides I have a sealable plastic bag with a moist microfiber cloth in my bags for the cleaning of my visor.
Downside is that I have to stop to clean it.

I'd like to see that tennisball solution

I use "Brilliantize" packets, but like the wet MF cloth in a bag idea to get the big bug parts off first.

Installed the Palmer brackets to go with the tall Buell Shield. In full top/out position, there is lots more protection than without brackets. But I am still getting significant noise in my helmet. Need to wear earplugs.

I tried the low/center position, and its pretty good - much better than stock position. I am getting a little bit of noise (less than stock position), but I could easily ride without earplugs. Protection was better than in stock position as well. I think a tilt in our out may get it even quieter.

Note to self:add 'fitting of tennis ball with sponge on handle bars' to ever present list of farkles.

Honestly, you finish doing all the little mods on your list and you find a load more to do.Mind you, last time I had nothing to do to the bike I felt lost.

Tennis ball solution for Galloper:

Just wet the sponge before you set off, crude but effective.

Tried every position on the Palmer Brackets. None of them are perfect with the Buell Tall Windshield. I think the windshield is just too small to give enough protection. All the way down and in is okay, and all the way up and in the middle is okay. Most of the other positions were not so good.

I was doing mostly freeway riding (80 mph) trying to dial them in. But in all positions at that speed, I get significant wind noise. Bad enough that I would not want to ride 500 miles on the Freeway in any one day.

I guess I should try a different shield with the brackets. My other option is to put the small shield back on (with the brackets to lift it up just a little). Too bad I have to destroy the pins on the shield to get them off.

My original thoughts were to get some of the windpressure off my shoulders. I might be better off in getting a jacket with less shoulder pads. Plus my current jacket is just too hot in the Carolina summertime.

The only way to get the effect you want is to sell the Ulysses and buy a bike with a full fairing

The screen, what ever position or height, is never going to take the wind off your whole body, it just not big enough

Gsilvernale, I have an Arai tour X and whatever bike I've riden I've needed ear plugs, it's just one of those helmets. Ear plugs is always a good idea especially on long trips and a decent pair is a good investment for your hearing.
The screen is also quite small and being narrow will also not help because it's only as wide as the lid so there will always be some wind noise generated at the sides.
I also found that by moving the bars back about 1-2" helped position me in a better zone behind the screen.

Does your screen have a slight lip on the top edge?

My helmet is very quiet when in clean air, so its not the helmet. And I do wear ear plugs for any significant long rides.

I already rotated my bars backwards, the original position had me always sliding forward towards the front of the seat.

Yes there is a very small lip on the top edge. Which may be imparting some turbulent flow. Most of the aftermarket shields do not have this lip, and people are reporting good results with them.

I have done very long rides before on bikes without full fairings. And have found that sometimes just a inch or two in adjustment of the windflow will make a big difference. That and speed. Its much more relaxing to ride 65 MPH for 8 hours, then to ride 80 mile/hour for 6 hours.

Your brackets are definetly a step up for me. I am just trying to get the "best" that I can out of them.

Gsilvernale, I'm interested in rotating my bars as well. I was unable to loosen the screws ... is there a special tool that is helpful for this, or just an allen wrench and a lot of "elbow grease"?

Yes just an allen wrench. I have Allen Wrench socket set, so it was relatively easy for me to break loose.

These are installed with Loctite. So breaking them loose may be a little more effort then you think.

Once you rotate your bars, you will also need to rotate the mirrors/levers.

When you retigthen, use only 10-12 foot/lbs. I did not reapply loctite on mine, but the manual suggests that you do.

I ended up using a corded driver with the right size allen key bit. My cordless crapped out trying to get them out, lol.

Use a good quality 3/8" drive, 1/2" is to heavy

Adjust a little at a time, literally in 5 degree movements, then its easy to go back to where you had them "before"

I did not need to move mine much, un fact so little that I did not have to move the levers, but is has made a lot of difference
