Ok,
Here's the Reader's Digest version of my story.

Called a new (to me) dealer to schedule my 06 Uly to get all recall work done. The dealer cannot get a BAS re-location kit because he doesn't have enough Ulys to repair the BAS on. He says HD wants him to have a certain percentage of bikes to repair. Does this make sense? WTF?

Is there a shortage of kits?

Thanks,
AR

That can't be right. That makes no sense at all.
If there's a recall (or upgrade bulletin or whatever it's called) they should have to get you that kit.
I can't think of one valid reason for them to hold out on it like that.

I can't imagine having to go to the dealer that sold you bike since they all get reimbursed by Buell just the same.

Is it HD saying this without any say from Buell? This might require a call to Buell customer service to get to the root of it.

Load of crap. They are required to do the recall. It's not an option.

They will do the recall, they can't get the part from HD. The service dude said that HD is holding them back from getting the part. It's not the dealer saying they won't do it.

The Motor Company will not send the part if they have not used 75% of what they have been sent already. If they fill out the request form, fax it in and they do not have any in stock they should get one. If all else fails call customer service and they will get one for you.

So, what you are saying is that a Buell dealer that is asking HD for a recall part to fix a customer's bike may not be able to get one, but a customer calling CS will? Nice.

Does this make sense?

Darn little based on what little I know.

Call Customer Service. Any problems, drop me a note.

Andrejs2112,

I know you mentioned Buell dealer in your last post. Does this dealer sell new Buells?

They may be new to Buells. I don't know. I'll try CS today.

Andrejs,
I know what the problem is. You are in Michigan and it's been so darned cold that your dealer has brain freeze. Bring a warm towel to lay on his forehead and I'm sure his eyes will uncross.

Andrejs2112,

The reason I asked if the dealer sold new Buells was to make sure it is a actual Buell dealer not just an HD dealer that does some Buell service work and sells some used Buells. If it isn't a Buell/HD dealer they can't do recall and warranty work.

You probably know this, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

The BAS is an official HD recall. There is no earthly reason why any dealer should not carry out this work and I would think that you have a good legal case to persue if the dealer refuses.

Check your bike here.........

Called CS and within 40 minutes the dealer called and mysteriously found the part in a box in the back room.

Now just hope they don't touch the rest of the bike when they do the recall. : )

There is a requirement from the motor company that we (a dealer) has to perform a certain percentage of the recalls on sold vehicles in the "area", or they will not ship recall parts *for stock*.

All that means is you have to take your bike to them, they log the VIN, order the part, and call you when it comes in.

By being "bad", the dealer loses a couple customer service points by not having the part on a shelf...but they will absolutely be able to get you the part.

Ratbuell,
I called the dealer, gave them the Vin, and they said they ordered the parts. I called them three weeks later and still no part. That's when I called CS...voila! parts found in a box out back!
