I was following another thread on these tires.....

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/333685.html?1201804245

I have been running the Pilot Roads for some 7500 miles and finally started throwing rubber strips off the rear tire on my last ride. I knew I wanted the Pilot Road 2's from some of the reviews I had read. Ftbstrd turned me on to a place in Florida that I could get a set delivered for $289. I was planning on saving them for the MBV run at the end of March, but alas with the rubber strips coming off my rear, I decided to mount the new sneakers.

Today 2/25/2008 I did my first 50 mile commute into work. I have the tires currently set as 40psi and I had no issues with a twitchy front or crazy drop in. I actually like the more aggressive feel of the tires. Meaning, I noticed the bike had a more sportbike like feel. I found I could move the bike with subtle inputs from my hips and less counter steering with my arms. The traction was not taken into account as I was running super slab most of the way. I did notice the bike was a little smoother and the rain groves in the roads were no issue. The Uly never swam around, unlike it did with the Pilot Roads.

So these are my initial findings and I will update this thread with more detail as the week wears on, as I will be riding all week.

Cool. I see mine every time I come in and out of the garage door. I am saving mine for MBV. I haven't been able to get out and ride thanks to the weather.

Looks like this March Badness will be a good overall tire test: )

I shagged a rear Strada at 1800 miles there.

mass+speed+friction=short mileage

I have been running my PR2's at "standard" pressure of about 34/38.. They are definitely quicker than any tire I have had on the ULY...much more so that the old Pilot Roads. To me they seem to sort of have a delayed "fall in".... or... maybe they turn a little more than I expect for the input..got about 2K on mine. On the highway at 70mph or so they are extremely light feeling.

For you guys that have dropped the extra cash for the PR2's what are your hopes for mileage out of the rear tire? I have been through 4 of the Pilot Roads on my bike with getting an average mileage of about 6800 miles out of the rears.

I figure I would have to get over 8000 miles out of a PR2's to to justify the added cost. I'm just not sure the tire will do that, from what I have been able to find on reviews since the tires are so new.

Hell, I'd be glad to get 4,000 miles.

So you are hoping to double your mileage?

Here this will depress the hell out of you. LOL

Price of the tire $170 / 4000mi = $.0425/mi.

Figure you get 45mpg on fuel so each time you buy a gallon of gas you also spend $1.91 for tire use.

Sounds like MBV is going to have a tire infor sharing session... I bit the bullet and bought a set of Distanzia's. Their first trip will be MBV. Should have a decent fell for them after the 1500+ miles I plan on putting on them during that time frame.

I kill tires. Skulling a Strada at 1800 miles was a little depressing.

Skulling a Strada at 1800 miles was a little depressing.

My first (and only) rear Strada is now finished at just under 5k...

Thought a dual-compound tire would get me above the 6500-7500 I was getting from Syncs and 616's. I never had any issues with the grip, but the handling has been funny at times.

I'm putting another Sync on this week. When it's done I'm going to try the Dunlop Roadsmarts, gotta give Dunlop one more shot...

The Strada is a single compound tire.

I didn't care for the compound or the profile. ChadHargis loves them and swears by them. I never felt comfortable with them. Actually, the best feeling tire I've had was the Avon Storm.

If I don't get any better performance out of the PR2CTs, I'll probably put another set on.
