Two years ago I bought my first street bike (not including 6 mo on the DRZ) sight unseen. At 43, a father of 3, I was not very confident in my riding ability or experience level. The Uly appeal was the upright seating position, good looks and American construction. I was afraid of any bike that might get me in trouble with too much weight, power, manageability.....

Man did I make the right choice. It's all been said I know...but this thing is a fantastic fit for me. Light, smooth predictable power, comfortable, stylish and capable in almost every condition. Reasonably few problems and low maintenance so far.

Two recalls: the kickstand and bank angle sensor. Two warranty issues: low fuel light sensor and wheel bearings. Modifications: horn vibration gap spacer(sounds ), piaa lamps(ok but more is needed), hot grips with a better switch from the parts store(love em), K&N air filter and Diablo Stradas(me like!). Gripes: lurching in first gear, rusted pipe, poor headlights, original tires and the rev limiter. All minor issues.

Observations: always ducking under the minimal wind screen with rear feet pegs, get used to going fast, super comfortable, good two up, harley is dubious, easy to own and operate.

Here's to the next 10,000!

Very nice summary Mto!

I don't know if there is a perfect motorcycle (or anything else), but IMO the Uly is pretty close! I get grumpy if I go more than a couple days without riding it!

It took you 2 years to get 10k? What do you only use it to go to church or something? : )

The Uly is a perfect motorcycle. I look at my Lightning Long, and the list of things I am going to do to it, and then i realized that it will be 95% of a Ulysses after.

Here is to another great 10k!

I feel the same way about my Uly. 2 years, 5 months and 27K months the bike is every bit as enjoyable now as it was the first day I rode it home.

"Gripes: lurching in first gear...."

Mto,

If you haven't solved that yet, I found that the 07 air cleaner cover cleared it up completely. About $36 or so. Alternatively, you can find pictures of the 07 cover and drill out your 06 cover to accomplish the same thing.

rusted pipe

Getting the pipe ceramic coated was one of the better mods I have made. It costs $55, looks better than stock, and cleans easily.

Jlnance,

Is it true that you have to disassemble almost the entire bike to get the muffler off? I was told that the engine had to be lifted in order to do this. . .

No. That's not true. The engine must be rotated to remove the headers, but for just the muffler, it's pretty painless.

Good News!

Thanks Crusty.

Obviously I have yet to buy a Uly. The header pipes I just might wrap. Ceramic coat the muff! Years ago I used to repaint the 4 into 1 headers every season on my KZ-1000. Pain in the arse!
