I was thinking about removing my windscreen a la streetfighter fashion. I was wondering what kind of buffeting my result from doing so. If anyone has done this, what have you done to plug the holes in the flyscreen? Obviously this would not be ideal for longer rides, but for my quick jaunt to/from work, it would be feasible. | ||

I don't think you will notice much difference. I took mine off and couldn't really tell that it was off. The wind blast hits me center chest as it is. | ||

I ran it that way for a little while last summer. I actually liked it...there was no buffeting at all, the air felt more dispersed. I like more protection in the cold or if bad weather comes, so generally I just keep my ZG on all the time. | ||

Awesome! Thanks guys. That was the answer I was hoping for. Now if i could just figure out a temporary cover up for the holes. I figured the windscreen plugs would suffice, but not sure if they are even necessary. | ||

Mike, go to Orchard Supply Harware they have a selection of plastic snap in plugs that would work great. | ||

The stock short windshield flew off my bike, so i had none for a few days till my replacement came in. I noticed no difference with or without it. | ||

I did 6, back to back 1,000+ mile days without a windscreen. (Not by choice). See pic on profile. Honestly, I faired a lot better than I thought I would. I thought my shoulders/neck area won't be able to take the wind resistance, but other than a dull ache, I was in good shape. It could be that all the pain was directed to my behind, where the seam on the '06 seat had rubbed me raw. Anyway, give it a try, you might be surprised. | ||

I take mine off to mount my BAW. The BAW mounts behind the fly screen so I have the open holes too. I cover them with vinyl truck decal material. I use a quarter for a template and cut out round circular vinyl "patches". I used white because the orange vinyl that I have is a color mismatch and clashes badly. Next winter perhaps I will take the time to paint the vinyl before I make the patches, but for now.....so it goes. It seals them really well to keep out water, bugs, dirt and such, and it is real easy to remove them to put the screen back on. | ||

I think the type of jacket you have will have a bit to do with comfort on the bike. I did the Cherhala with no screen and a snug leather jacket and it was nirvana, next day with my Joe Rocket textile on the interstate it was unbearable. Got rid of that crappy jacket and I think I have found a compromise with the Rev-it gear. Now with the locking pins it is not as easy to pop off the screen when you get into the twistys. | ||

Your jacket makes a huge difference in wind pressure. I have a textile Teknic jacket and it really increases the wind resistance at my shoulders. Not sure if its the change in profile (more surface area) or if the fabric just grabs more air. But if I go Commando (long sleeve T-Shirt), then there is hardly any pressure on my torso, but the big safety jacket makes it a struggle for comfort at more than 65 MPH. | ||

Just to add to this... how can I get a flyscreen without the windscreen holes. I took the windscreen off last night, and didn't want to remove the rubber spacers, so i ended up putting the WS back on. I need Buell to make an OEM blank fly with mounting holes of course in Barricade Orange! Please Buell, please! Not everyone likes windscreens all the time! It's less holes to punch out at the factory, so....whaddya say? It's kinda like the flyscreen mold maker guy skimpin' and forgetting the add'l step involved for the WS guy on the assemble line. Right? Isn't Court our insider at Buell? MAybe he can help.  |
