I have an 08 Uly and I need some advice on tires with some grip in dirt and gravel. The stocks have very little grip even in the gravel coming and going to my barn. Spin with bare minimum throttle. Is there a good all round tire that handles highway and moderate off road use. Thanks guys...

The D616's are a decent off road tire. I have had some good experience with them. Others will tell you that the Avon Distanzia's are better (but only come in 160/60 rear size).

I am torn between going with the Pirelli Scorpions or the Distanzia's...

I installed a set of Avon Distanzias last fall before the snow, went up in the Rockies on two-tracks, gravel, dirt, minor hills (for Colorado) and found them noticably better on the loose stuff without giving up on road performance (been riding every chance I get since, 14deg when I left for work Sat, ya gotta love heated gear).

Rear is only spec'd a 160 but it fit right on the wheel and air right up, mounted it looks no narrower.

I posted pictures somewhere on BWB, older threads.

I will second the Distanzias. Not only do they perform well off road but I found the wet traction to be better than the MT60's or the D616's. The MT60s lasted for about 3000 miles and the Distanzias hit the wear bar at 4000 miles. The smaller size has not bothered the perfromace to me. I rode the Dragon twice with the Distanzias with no issues. My skills as a rider lack the ability to really feel the differance between tires and sizes beside a hard or soft compuond and the impact it has on my wallet at replacemnet time.

Did I mess up my 2nd post...? Jammer, I appreciate your knowledge and Rotors second. What kind of mileage is norm for the Distanzias. During the summer I do cross country runs (literally, so mileage is also important. I enjoy US 395 in California with all the dirt and gravel roads to explore. My decision appears to be all but decided.

When i mounted my Distanzias I put about 1000 miles on them (the dragon runs in there and a bunch of single track ATV trails) before I did a east coast LD ride. 3 days 2500 miles. It was a mix of super slab up and down I81, Blueridge parkway and NJ parkway high speed and wet and a ton of PA back roads. This ride set in my mind I found the all around tire for the all around bike.
Keep in mind that I got the mileage out of these tires with loaded bags so my rolling weight of the bike was around 575 Lbs. It was Cold also (November) so my tire temps never got real hot. I will mount another rear to get all I can out of my front for this summer. Lucky for me the Army is sending me to the southwest to test it out this summer.
