Following on the from the 'winter abuse' thread, I've just received the first sample of a potential mudguard I'm thinking of offering. The part will be a 3mm thick, reasonably flexible, very tough material. It can be fitted in a matter of minutes to the standard fastener points but will need a slightly longer screw, which will be provided.
I just wanted to gauge interest (as I've received a few email requests for this part as well as the fender extensions) as there are tooling costs involved and a minimum size of material.
I hope to keep the cost below the £10 mark and this part is very effective.
Pictures show the 'flap in blue to help see what it actually looks like.

Here's the original test part..........

Great, I'll need to sell 20 'flaps to pay for the tooling but again, I think it's a great mod and worth sharing. I used my bike today with the old proto fitted (freezing cold and damp gritted roads) and you can see how clean the bottom of the 'can and inside the belly-pan is!
I'm hoping to get the next batch of 25 sets of laser-cut brackets by the end of the week.
I'll post when they are available.
Cheers

To be honest, it looks like an afterthought. I would personally like to see an extension of the fender itself. Just my 2 cents on YOUR idea. Great idea though. I would be interested if it were a fender extension. A picture of Yosemite Sam on it would also add to it.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the mudflap will look a bit less obvious when it's made in black - the blue is just for clarity. It's also there to do a job but I personally like it on the bike.
The top picture shows my proto fender extension and I plan to do these as well - just working out the best way to attach them.

I see what you mean by the nose flap "doing a job". The fender extension would have to go really low to do the job of the nose flap.

Tough love here....
Just my opinion though, take it for what it's worth.....

Trojan Horse has a sweet front fender.

Yup expensive. That's for the carbon sides / fork tube protectors as well.
They also sell just the center part for about half that. Still $$ though.

I don't mind the dirt down low. However, I would be interested in extending the upper fender. I like the look of the high fender, but it doesn't really do much for keeping the crud of the lights and windscreen.

I am now ready to get the first batch of 20 parts made (Mudflaps and extension pieces).
The Fender extension part will be suitable for both ends of the front fender (has a feature which allow the part to follow the curve of the tyre - essential for the top extension) and the rear hugger. It should ideally be attached with a few plastic snap-rivets (supplied) but means some 5mm hole drilling - or use some industrial double-sided tape or adhesive if you prefer. They will add 75mm to the fender on each end.
I will need to sell them for £10.99 each plus optional £1.50 for a 5mm drill bit (plus a small bit of postage) just to get close to break-even as there is tooling involved.
The mudflap will cost the same but comes with longer screws to replace the standard ones plus nuts if you have an aftermarket kit.
All parts will be black.
Any feedback?

Ya have to be careful with the high fenders, due to the possibility that they may reduce the air flow to the front cylinder.

Trojan and American Sport Bike do have some nice carbon goodies, no doubt. As soon as I win the lotto, they will be my first call.

Yep, looked at that, which is why the extension pieces are designed to follow the curve of the tyre and not point upwards - my parts have no effect on the frontal area.
You are right about the Trojan parts - very nice bits but I think if you get the carbon bug you can end up spending a fortune!
My ideas are affordable solutions for riders like myself who can't justify spending that sort of money on nice-to-haves but want improvements.

For info' I now have a supply of clutch-cable P-Clips to replace the brittle wire arrangement - makes sure your clutch cable stays away from the exhaust! Email me for details.

Nice one............you can stand in my far queue
I've had a great response on this so I will go ahead with the parts - thanks to those who've emailed.

I've been using my bike all week to test the 'guards on the griity damp roads and they have made a significant difference to the build up of crud around the exhaust and front of the engine - the grime was limited to a fine layer.
I gave the bike a thorough clean to see how easy it was to clean now. The picture was taken an hour ago and the extension pieces were made in Orange to (apart from try and match the bike!) and help see what they look like.

This also shows the new P-Clip for the clutch cable.

Maybe but it isn't the same shade of Orange.
If you really want that colour, I can get them to add an extra 'flap - occasionally they have some off-cuts.
Not sure why the pictures haven't come out!

Luc, you are a star!
I posted the others exactly the same way!
By the way, a fender-extension / mudflap will be on it's way in about 1 week as promised (plus clutch cable P-Clip if you need one)- which 'flap you want?!
Cheers
Iain

Iain, I like the fender extension and the P-clip.

I showed your brackets (with pictures) at my dealer (www.motoportgoes.nl) this night. I'm going back this saturday with the Uly because the mechanics wanted to see them.
