Working towards powder coating/painting the primary cover, cam cover, wheels and tail sections. Finally got around to pulling the cam cover today.....pulled the front rocker and got the #2 jug to be at TDC on the compression stroke. When I first cracked the cam cover a couple of the cams wanted to stay put in the bearing but I was able to pull the cover off and all the cams stayed in place. That will save some time. Now have to get the covers together and down to the powder coater. Should there be any concern about the cam cover bearings holding up to the 450 degree oven bake job required for powder coating?? Also, going to line the gas tank/frame with the Thermotech material. I would like to put some on the tank right above the #1 jug on top of the hatch mark area shown in the picture. Any opinions if this will work well in this area. In the picture of the old plugs does anyone care to guess which plug was in the #1 hole??? I'm going with NGK Iridium this time around. Hopefully in a couple weeks I will have her all put back together.       | ||

Firstbatch, Looks like you are moving along with your project. When do you get the covers back? By the way the plug on the right looks like number 1. | ||

The sleeve bearings will be able to survive the heat, but they will distort when coming back to room temp. What you need to do is find the temp limit on those. I know for rolling bearings, your temp limit is 150C (300F). Anything over this temp will distort the bearing and during cool down it will not acheive the same dimensions as it had before the heat cycle. Sleeve bearings are pretty similar in this, but I don't know their temp ratings. To be sure, I would pop them out before powder coating. |
