Anyone replaced this booger? you know, the front one, up by the forks? the 06 guide(mine) allows the wires to get pinched by the forks at full left lock. the new 07 part apparently cures this. i have the part but not yet had any time to do it. is there anything i need to know before i screw everything up? thx fellas

I put one on my 06. No issues just stick it on. Direct replacement.
Really helps with the cable routing and pinching issues.

On the 08's I would not say that it is great - still puts pressure on the cables. New bike; and I took it off (much better now).

Does this by any chance have a part number of Y1000.2AK ? My 06 is June 2006 production, and I believe this is the improved version.

Bosh-do you recall the sizes of wrench you used to pull the bolts? I'm still learning which bits are standard, metric, etc. Also, it appears I have to pull the headlight to gain access. Anything else?

Fatty-it looks like a plastic tube, split in half. thx....

Bolts are 5/16, the nut is a standard 1/2",and the head is 1/4" allen. The headlights out of the way make this an easy replacement. Before you remove the headlights, look at the 2 ground wires that come out of the main harness and see if they rub the back of the left headlight when turned full left. If they rub, loosen the screw on the steering head after the headlights are out of the way and reposition them so they don't rub. After replacing the loom guide, check the wiring harness to see how everything looks on full lock turns before you reinstall the headlights. I had to replace the zip tie that holds the harness to the ignition stitch. I moved it to the right side of the upper left switch mounting lug to relieve some of the stress on a full left turn. If you replace this zip tie, don't pull it too tight, as the harness needs to move slightly on full lock turns. The improved version of the loom guide has a tab that folds up to the lower mounting hole, and this tab is sandwiched between the frame lug and the loom guide to keep the wiring harness from rubbing on the mounting lug. I put the bolts in from the left side,(right side as you are looking at it from the front), to give the above mentioned ground wires some more clearance. Most of this will be evident when you get in there and start looking at things. I just did some rearranging on mine this weekend. Hope this helps. Many thanks to Rays on this forum for his previous encounters with problems in this area.

+1 on what Dio said.

I was able to change out the guide without removing the headlights. Wasn't much of a problem.

The only problem with this "mod" is @ ~$3.00 the loom guide doesn't qualify for free shipping at the mail order dealer. So it's a good idea to get the heated grips while you're at it..

Portero72,

What is the part number of the loom guide you are replacing on your 06 Uly? The new part number from the 07 that is? I bought some 07 part thinking it was for this but when I got it it did not look like what I was expecting. I never installed it. This discussion is interesting - thanks.

Portero72,

Thanks for posting the part number. I got different parts - Y1010.5AA - Wire Guide Upper and M0072.02AB -Guard, Wire, nylon. These are quite different parts.

From the picture Bosh has posted and my checking my 06 Uly it looks like it may have this part factory installed.

Thanks again!
