Strada, Not to take away from your work, but Mark Stadnyk has come up with a very similar piece that does the trick. As Vagabond says, he's just on the verge of production. Gobs of adjustably and a very slick looking package that will probably be powder coated just like his VStrom brackets. Under 50 quid? Maybe, he's under $100 usd for the Strom brackets with all the hardware, but shipping from the states and vice versa from overseas would bring that up a bit. With the screen I remember he felt the cost wouldn't go up much. And he may offer either or as the stock screen didn't need significant bracing as taller screens do. FOr mine I just squirted on textured black. Less shiny bits the better. Right Hoon?!?  Mike | ||

I must agree on the non-shiny stuff,verily. Is that fly-screen recently matted? I don't remember it being like that.(Looks good) Are you gonna do the rest of the plastics? If so,don't forget the middle portion of the bellypan/chin spoiler and the colour panels of the luggage-sod it,just dunk the whole thing in the paint tin!  | ||

Does MATT have a trademark on that color or did you mean MATTE?  having a dull or lusterless surface: matte paint; a matte complexion; a photograph with a matte finish. | ||

Just a quick update.................. Expecting the first samples of the laser-cut brackets middle of next week and if they don't need any adjustments, kits will be ready about 1/2 weeks later. I still have my prototype part available if anyone needs to check effectiveness. Cheers Iain | ||

Just to let you know that I'm hoping to send out the first kits at the end of next week, so if you emailed already, you'll get them first - cost is looking to come out at £47.50 incl. UK postage. This will include brushed stainless laser-cut parts with stainless fasteners and all tools to assemble including an allen key to remove the standard cowl (or fly-screen as Buell call it). Lost 3 days this week due to business trip to Spain but managed to assemble the first kit of production parts and can't tell you how pleased I am. All the parts are high quality and look fantastic on the bike - not too bulky or obvious. Anyway here's the first picture I've taken and now I need to work on the instructions and packaging (which will arrive tomorrow). I plan to spend all weekend making the first batch of parts and I have 5/6 kits reserved and have the same number left - each kit will be delivered preassembled in the optimum position and will include the 3 tools necessary to remove and assemble the new parts (2 allen keys plus a Draper 10mm combination spanner). I'll be in a position to commit to more kits in a week or two depending on response. Just to clarify as a couple of people have asked - the brackets fit to the standard touring screen (or the small screen with a slightly different fixing arrangement) and needs no cutting or modding of the bike. Yes, there are 9 - 3 height positions and 3 tilt angles. The maximum position adds about 200mm to the height plus gives a better flow angle. I tried the slotted route but you could never gauge where is was when you've made a few adjustments and the point at which you found the 'sweet-spot' - i.e no real datum to go by. The adjustments don't need to be infinite and I'm sure 9 positions is enough! I am 6' with 32 inside seam and have found the middle position tilted furthest forward is my best position and this is how the brackets will be delivered, preassembled. By not using slots, the adjustment takes a little bit longer because you have to remove the fasteners but once you've found the ideal position it will stay there! The idea of the bracket is to keep the weight low, maximise rigidity, look good without obscuring your view or spoiling the look of the cowl area and above all, needs no modification to the bike - assembly time is approximately 15-20 minutes. I hope the first few customers will give their feedback asap and look forward to riders experiencing how this design really does transform the bike. I am really shocked how bad the standard screen arrangement is and I know there are loads of other designs out there to address this big issue but I feel there is nothing wrong with the standard screen..... it's just in the wrong position! Well, I'm back from the ride, it sure was cold outside so it wasn't a really long ride.  The brackets sure make a difference. I didn't have any buffeting on my helmet and with my hand I could feel the wind go over me.  The look of the stainless steel is very nice. I'm very pleased with the overall look of the bike now. I've taken the brackets and installed everything as it was from the box. I did not adjust anything, yet. I will put it in the lower and higher position and test it then. However this weekend I'm not home. (Message edited by galloper on February 14, 2008) |
