Ok, so I'm bored. I'm also 5'9" on a good day, love the Uly more than any other bike I've owned, and refuse to lower it. Any other vertically challenged Uly riders on the Badweb?

5'10"
I'm not quite on my tip toes and would probably be ok at 5'9". My wife loves it, She's 4'10" on a lowered 883 and tip-toes ALL THE TIME. She's just finally glad that I can relate!

Ummmm 5'9.75" and never really considered myself vertically challenged. Maybe just not really tall. Uly not a problem.

5'7" - my 07' has the lower seat - it's still a reach. Wouldn't change a thing.

I'm 5'8" or so, but I'd think that's a pretty irrelevant statistic. Inseam measurement is what shows how long your legs are. I'm 30" on a good day.

Crusty,
It would seem that changing your back shock, 08 triple clamps, and heated grips would be a much more economical route. Slide your 06 forks up in the new clamps the appropriate amount. The oil pump and cooler is a non-issue IMHO.

Crusty, Ditto EG1977. An XB9 shock will lower the Uly 1.5" in the rear. To slide the forks up the required amount to match, you will need the Rox Risers but no new cables. Also, need to buy the XT side stand or shorten yours.

The nice thing about using the XB12XT rear shock over an XB9 or 12 rear shock is that you keep the nifty remote adjuster.

Quite true but it is the lowest cost option. The next lowest option, which does keep the adjuster, is to send the shock off to have the travel shortened.

5-9, 32 inseam, 06 standard seat here. Have to tippy-toe it, but don't intend to change anything. After 42K miles still the best bike ever in 50 years of riding.

5-6/5-7 depending on whose doing the measuring (you would think the drs could get it straight) and a damn 28 inch inseam. I could ride the ULY, I have around the track, but it is too tall for the chunky muddy off camber stuff that I do. Thus I ride the hell out of my CITYX and treat it like a ULY every chance I get.

Another 5' 8" here, but with a 31" inseam and the factory low seat (bloody comfortable!) I don't have any problems. Like Crusty though I'll take a serious look at the XT when it comes over here. If it comes over here? (UK)

How do you guys get a 31" inseam at 5'8"? I'm 6' with a 31" inseam. With my ratio, I would probably have a 26" inseam if I was 5'7"!

Etennuly - I have a 32" inseam at 5' 9.75". I guess I have long legs like my Uly.

Do you measure your inseam from crotch to ankle or from crotch to floor?

At the great risk of invoking the dreaded Ft_bstrd pics *shudders* I'll say that I also measure to the floor.

I guess I'd be just fine on a standard Uly.
5' 7 & 3/4" short with a 32" inseam. Legs arn't long, I just got a short trunk and a pin head. I guess I coulda been 5'9 if I had eaten my veggies : D
