Has anyone had experience with both the Buell factory heated grips and the stock grips on a 1200GS? If so, how do they compare?

(I'll admit to liking the cleaner wireless design of the GS' grips.)

The Buell heaters are HOT. So hot, that even on low, I tend to turn them off after about 10 minutes, leave them off for 5 and then back on.
But then again, it was only 50 degrees, and I had light weight gloves on.

The only time that I've ever switched to HI was when I wanted to see just how hot the grips would get.

Morning commute is normally in the upper 30s. LO works just fine. Longer rides in the 40s, the grips need to be switched off periodically. Plenty O' Heat. I actually needed gloves with more palm insulation.

LO might be hotter than BMW grips (it's been a while since my K75). HI is probably about the same. As I recall, I used to refer to the BMW settings as "warm" and "thermonuclear".

BMW's current heated grips have the "low" setting adjusting to the ambient temps and the "high" setting being flat out 100% - so depending on the actual outdoor temps, you might see a significant difference between the low and high settings. (I never used the high setting on my GS.)

Glad to hear that the Uly's low settings are so effective.
