In my recent posting, Uly vs Tiger, there were a lot of interesting responses. Thank you all.

One subject was mentioned several times and that is " Farkling " around with the Uly.
I can only assume that this means constant problems that need attention, that might take away from one's enjoyment of the motorcycle.
What is exactly meant by " Farkling " ?
Thanks

Buell or Tiger ?

farkling- gadets, gizmos, mods. Playing around with things- is how I've always taken it. (replace the "a" and "r" to replace with the letters "u" and "c" ) : )

If you ever installed a cup holder on a motorcycle,... you might have farkled
If you have ever tried to mount speakers on an adventure bike.... you might be a farkler
If you have ever put a pony keg on the bike to hold more gas... you might have farkled too far.
And if you have ever changed every part on the bike simply because you could, you are definitely a farkler.

Motorcycle farkle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The word Farkle belongs to the vernacular of the North American motorcyclist, and refers to accessories or the act of accessorizing a motorcycle.

Farkles may include any accesories but especially those intended to increase the function of a motorcycle -- vs. those intended to glamorize (i.e. if an accessory is chromed, it is probably not a farkle - see Bling.)

Examples include items that do not arrive as standard equipment on the motorcycle, such as Radar detectors, GPS systems, heated grips, satellite radios, highway pegs, or top and side cases.

[edit] Etymology
The Etymology of "Farkle" is murky. It was in use at least by the late nineteen-nineties, circa 1997.

The word may be a combination (portmanteau) of "function" and "sparkle." One source attributes the term to a member of the Honda ST1100 user group [1].

Another source claims that farkle was a term originally used for the multiple tail lights that Honda Goldwing riders used in the late 80's and early 90's. They would flash or sparkle when the brakes were applied, thus farkle may be a combination of those two words[citation needed].

Farkle is also a Backronym:

F.ancy
A.ccessory
R.eally
K.ool &
L.ikely
E.xpensive

0.o I have done the cup holder; I was planning on the speakers. I didn’t do the keg, but I did put an electric cooler on the back, does that count?

Farkle?
Like the Farkle Family on "Laugh-In?

*** From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ***
The Farkel Family was a recurring skit on the television variety show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. The Farkel parents, Freddy and Fanny Farkle, played by Dan Rowan and Jo Anne Worley (later by Barbara Sharma), both had dark-colored hair and good eyesight. Curiously, all the children had red hair and wore glasses, just like their "good friend and trusty neighbor" Ferd Berfel, played by Dick Martin. One daughter, Flicker Farkel, played by Ruth Buzzi, had no lines, she always yelled, 'Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!'

The youngest was Sparkle Farkel, played by Goldie Hawn. They also had the twins, Simon and Gar Farkel (a pun on Simon and Garfunkel). Despite being identical twins, they were played by actresses of different races, Pamela Rodgers and Teresa Graves.
*** END WIKIPEDIA ***
Not sure when that term was coined to mean accessorizing a motorcycle.

I think you will be happy with a Uly. The "Farkling" is fun and easy to do. Start by memorizing your CC number. It makes it less obvious to the wife when you are buying stuff online. It's hard to explain why the CC is propped up on your keyboard. Start by going here:

Wolfridgerider - question. I am installing a 3.5 gallon from Tour Tank. I bought a fuel tank drain plug to get the thread pitch (3/8 X 14 pitch). Where did you buy your plug with a fuel hose barb to screw into the bikes fuel tank drain plug hole? I haven't looked yet but I'll bet it will be a chore finding it. All the rest is easy from their site. Thanks

Do you have a auto speed shop in your area? (Jegs or Summit) That would be the first place I would look.
If that doesn't work head to NAPA, Autozone, Car quest...... Hope that helps.

I had a bit of a time finding one, finally found one at a company that makes up hydraulic lines and hoses. IIRC it is an "AN" style fitting. Local auto parts stores didn't have them. A "speed" shop may have 'em.

It is a straight-thread o-ring fitting, I found one at NAPA, but they had a hell of a time finding it, took about 2 days and three people. Even then I could not get one with a 90 degree hose barb, I had to put 2 fittings together. Best bet is a place that sells hydraulic fittings.
