Over the last few months I've noticed a "rubbing" sound coming from the Uly's clutch (42,000 miles). It is quite prominent when I engage first gear, then disappears when I start moving. It occurs to a lesser degree a couple seconds after disengaging the clutch while still in neutral. I'm assuming it's a bearing. After all, I had all the "creamy paste" on my clutch cover, remember that? In the shop manual, referring to Figure 6-12 (exploded view of clutch assembly) it looks like the bearing (part 15 in the figure) that is just behind the "release plate." Does this sound likely? I'll have to get the clutch tool from American Sport Bike, but does anyone have confirmation that this is probably the bearing? Oh yeah, one more thing...can the primary cover gasket be re-used once? (I know the trick of putting in threaded rods to guide the gasket) And one MORE thing...while I've got the primary cover off is there anything else that I should check? Thanks in advance for any help! In 42,000 miles this is the first thing that's needed attention...pretty impressive. | ||

I'm one who has not touched the clutch on a Buell yet. Having said that, I recall a thread a long time back about the nut that holds the basket on coming loose. | ||

Check your primary chain adjustment Check the torque on the compensating nut Check the primary chain shoe for wear Check out the clutch pack (both the frictions and steel plates for wear) As far as the gasket goes it gets crushed pretty good when the primary cover is installed so you will see the difference and indent from where it lines up. I personally would replace it, its not that expensive and better safe than sorry. just my 2 cents |
