I crashed my Uly 3 weeks ago. It was a relatively low speed incident when the front end slid on ice and the back end flipped around. The damage was relatively light but as the front tyre deflated and I lost the front brake fluid, I ended up getting it home on a trailer. I cleaned the bike down before it was collected and noted the following damage: I found damage to the front wheel and tyre, the screw at the right end of the handlebar had a scuff, the r/h/s riders footrest was missing, the r/h/s rear indicator lense was cracked and the pillion grab rail was scraped and bent and I think the rear sub-frame was bent. Apart from that, the paintwork was immaculate and there wasn't even a scuff mark anywhere, except for my footprint on the seat where I tried to push if off my foot. After a 'phone conversation with the repair center yesterday, I requested the breakdown of parts required. Jesus H Christ!!!!!!!!! I almost had a heart attack!!!!!! Please note that the prices are in £ (GBP) and at current exchange rates, there are practically $2 to £1  | ||

Crap man - 408 eros to paint the top cowl, and 250 eros for the Dummy fuel tank??? I think they are calling you names... | ||

Jesus, looks like they are counting every little thing that is not showroom perfect. Get a new rim and footpeg and live with the rest. If possible post pics, so we can give you a better idea of what really needs replacement. | ||

Longdog, is that the repair bill from a Buell dealer, or from an Insurers approved centre? If the latter then they're probably adding a % on to the parts prices. You say there weasn't a mark or scuff on the 'tank' so why are they quoting to repaint it? If this is being done by the insurers then tell them they're being ripped off. If you're p;aying then you can do almost all that work (in fact I'd say all of it) yourself and save a packet. | ||

It's an insurance job, but someone is pulling somebodies wire here!!! The prices are from the insurers approved center. Even in UK, the dummy airbox cover is £203 and the front cowling is only £61 so where do they get almost £660 for paint from??? The parts are impregnated plastics!!! I have said this to the repair center, but all I got was "this is the assessor's report that has been approved by the engineer". | ||

Granted those prices seem high, but just for fun, low side a late model VFR and compare. Minor cosmetic damage on my 94 VFR came to 9000.00 bucks and that is before labour! Naturally I bought the bike from the insurance company and did the work myself , but it still came to 4500.00! I think the tank alone was 550.00. Cheers to Buell for inexpensive parts, now if only my insurance company would see past the association to Harley thing....  | ||

Tell you what Longdog, if that was me I'd be making a discreet phone to call to the head of the Insurers repairs section. I'd not be surprised if the garage and the assessor were in on a nice little racket together. The insurance company is being ripped off, and ultimately it's us who have to pay for it with higher premiums. Your call of course, but I know what I'd be doing. | ||
