Is it absolutely necessary to have the rear wheel raised off the floor (as per the service manual) when doing the clutch adjustment?

I don't either, and haven't had a problem. I was just wondering why they'd list that in the manual. I can't think of a good reason, other than to keep the bike level and not spill any tranny oil.
