Hey Vagabond,

I don't see the 16" Parabellum on their website, the smallest it shows is 22".

Is that a custom order or did you have it cut down.

Thanks,
John

John - call Charly @Parabellum(number is on his web site). He makes them just doesn't advertise them. Pretty sure if you already have a larger one he gives you a good price. When I asked him for a shorter one he was thinking about packaging them with a larger one... just don't think he ever got that far.

He basically has all his forms/molds setup ... he could probably make just about any size.

John,
It was custom made for me. Gamdh is correct. Charly makes the shields to order, which gives you more options for height. The Parabellum windscreens are a first rate product, and the customer service is top notch as well.

Second the product quality and service! The first time I dropped the uly at his shop for the initial prototype... we compared the Cee-Baily to one of his products. The difference in material and quality is very noticable...and he is a genuinely nice guy who wants to make his customers happy.

How do you figure out the right height for you? My thought was to duct tape two screens together (i have a ZG coming) and vary heights to find the right height for me.
The 22" (pictured below) looks a little tall to me ... perhaps an 18" or 20".

I really like the look and width of these screens. They seem like quality pieces.

Thats the hard part... I had a bit of an advantage.. being able to got to his shop. If you look at the threads I posted earlier they talk a bit about size etc. (There are some pics and measurements with me on the bike). Last winter I used the 28" inch shield, I'm 6'2" and the wind hit just above my face shield .. really not too bad. Some occasional minor buffeting.. but nothing that bad, really pretty good.

I now have the smaller 16" (actually still using the prototype - it was the first link I posted above). With that one the air hits just at the bottom of my helmet. This cause a little noise but again not bad (note I always wear ear plugs). I actually would like about 1" cut off of this one, but it hasn't bothered me enough to actually do anything about it. So, it depends.. do you want to be out of the wind or just have your head out of the wind? I'm on the list for a MadStad bracket which I plan to with my 16" Parabellum.. (pretty much like Vagabond's setup).

So.. look through the threads earlier.. for some measurements ( or look at gamdh.smugmug.com for the Parabellum gallery).. I might give you a starting point. Then call Charly and discuss it with him.

For me.. If I want to be out of the wind (ie cold weather) I want the tallest screen I can find and still see over the top..a 30" Parabellum would be perfect.

But, I generally just like to have the wind off my chest.. so I"m using the smaller version for now.

Gamdh,

Yeah, I'm just looking to just get the air off my chest for now ... I like my helmet in clean air, preferably.

For me.. (6'2") I would like to have the Parabellum about 15 inches (measured full height). That would put the wind just below the bottom of my helmet. But even with the 16" I have, its really pretty good..I'm really splitting hairs to move the air down just a little. Again use that as a starting point and discuss with Charly.

I think I'm

When you get your Madstads, you can adjust for that 1" difference.

The ? i would have is how would Charley's 15" screen compare to the ZG size of +4 ??

Seems like Charley's is a better product, too.

Not sure as I've never put my hands on any ZG's. The only comparison I have is the 16" parabelum vs. the Cee-Baily +2.5 (CB is 2.5 inches higher than the stock).

Just a guess... but the ZG might be pretty close in height to this one, but I think (from a few pics) the Parabellum might be a bit wider at the top??

This is what I got back for MadStad..

I'm hoping to have the MadStad Ulysses brackets ready by February. The two prototypes that have been tested did very well and were a great improvement, and I don't know if I'm going to need any more testing. I'm actually trying to get Buell to make them a permanent addition to the Uly. They would be the first manufacturer to offer a fully adjustable windshield, but I have not been able to get their attention yet. It might help if Uly riders contacted Buell to let them know they are interested in the MadStad adjustable windshield brackets. If you are interested in helping me get these brackets produced, you could contact the lead Ulysses guy at Buell. His name is Dane Hoechst (pronounced "Hickst"). Buell's phone number is 262-642-2986 and I believe his email address is dane.hoechst@buell.com

I'll hold on to your email and keep you posted when something becomes available. Thank you for your interest!

Best regards,
Mark Stadnyk

Yep, I've emailed Buell praising the mounts, and I received the "thank you for your interest" form letter (email) in response. Dunno if they even read the note, hope they did though.

I'm glad to see that Mark is putting the mounts into production. It's a great product!

Gotta go freeze my ass off at work now... (a balmy -45 degrees F tonight)

Send the e-mails, ask Mark for it, do anything you can. This is a great product. For any shield. Gives you the ability to taylor that wind flow and make the bike allot more comfortable to ride.

In case anyone is interested in trying a screen adjustment arrangement I have a prototype part available to fit for someone (if they come to me) to try. My intention is to make up a cheap, small, production kit of bits.
It is designed for the Buell screens (standard or touring) or similar and needs no mods to the bike - simple bolt on goody.

I've talked to Mark at Madstad very recently, and he is putting the adjustable mounts into production. The mounts will utilize a new laser cut aluminum flyscreen for strength and stability at speed. The new mount/flyscreen set-up should be available at the end of February.

a new cowl sounds expensive . Will it be painted? What is the rough cost? I have a target price of £50.

Managed to complete the last real speed tests today because it was very windy!
Performance of the screen 'repositioner' was better than I could have hoped. I am 6' tall and the air flow was just over the top of my lid (in the screen's mid position and tilted forward) with chest and shoulders clear of wind blast. I'll have more detials in a few days about availability so please PM if you are interested to receive the first kits.
