So here's some pics of my just finished driving lights. I went cheap, $20 Walmart specials. If I like em & the bracket works out, I'll get some good ones. I found out after I was all finished up, and putting the seat back on that the relay was mounted right in the way of supports under the seat. I just used double tape to mount it lower in the same place.

Very nice. What wattage are those lights?

I rode the Uly home in the dark last week, and was reminded how poor the stock lights are, even with the switch happily in the middle and activating both bulbs.

I need to do something like that.

I'm actually not sure, I threw the box out a few days ago. My first impression, not having had it out of the garage yet, is that the beam is not very focused, we'll see...

Any extra light is bound to help.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing except using police take-down lights. KC has something similar to a take-down on their site and it is not too expensive.

With that 100W bulb the site says you get 167,000 candle power from one light. Overkill? Ummmm, depends on what you want the lights for. In LA there is plenty of light everywhere so it is not a problem for me. But when I was on the road traveling through the southwest I wish I had something brighter.

I had some similar lights on a car of mine years ago. They were mounted on the bumper and aimed in such a way that I had light through the turns. I also kept them aimed down so that they would not blind oncoming traffic. You may have to play with them a bit in order to get them in a good place.

Or you could just get the driving lights. :-)

What are the dimensions on those Wal-Mart lights?

I found the box, the lights are 55w and they're about 1.5 x 2.

Those look good. Just keep an eye on the bracket. The use of plain angle bracket, from local HW stores, might not hold up to any significant weight over time with the vibes the Uly gives. You might think about a reinforcement backing to aid in strength.

I used the thin brackets, and they broke on the way home from work one day. About 3 months on them. Thankfully I was at a pit stop when I noticed the broken side dangling.

I was thinking about that too, but I just figured this could be a cheap "mock-up". If it works, great, if not I'll get more serious about it.

Luft,
How are your mounts with vibration?
Do the lights stay where you set them?

Your screen extension looks quite useful with the extra width without too much height.

If you have problems with vibration on the lights you can put a piece of rubber between the triple clamps and the mount. I used a strip off of a heavy duty tube. My lights danced at ~3800RPM and the rubber made it go away almost completely.
