It's true, after over 46,000 miles, I have gotten rid of my '06 Uly.

Yesterday I traded it in on a new '08 Uly.

I want to thank Cityxslicker, the Buell salesman at Silverdale H-D/Buell for a pleasant buying experence. He is very knowledgeable, and I am satisified with the deal we made on my new bike.

He was very busy selling bikes yesterday, so while me and my girlfriend waited for the paperwork ect, he treated us to lunch while we watched the Seahawks game on the dealers bigscreen. Too bad Green Bay spanked them, but that is a different story.

I haven't even had the new bike on the road yet. (except for a *little* wheelie in their parking lot). I'm at work and will unload it from my truck tonight for a little break-in session.

Thanks Brian, for helping make the buying experence fun and easy.

Interesting story about the color.........

I wanted a black one......the same color as my '06. The only '08 Uly Brian had was a blue one. So they took the black airbox cover and flyscreen off a '07 they had in stock, and put the black pieces on my '08.

Now their '07 is blue.......a color not offered in that year. So if anyone wants a one-of-a-kind BLUE '07, go see Brian in Silverdale, WA.}

Aren't the blue ones faster then black ones? Not to forget that the orange ones are still faster! Ride safe Werner

I think instead of discussing which color is faster, we should debate which gasoline grade works best with which oil.

Edit:
Thanks Crusty, I forgot:
Gotta discuss tire selection too.......

Actually, the best color is orange, the best oil id Syn3, the best gasoline is Sunoco Ultra 94 and the best tires are Pirelli Diablo Stradas.

How about this one..........

I'm a little dissapointed that my '08 has Pirelli Scorpoin Sync's on it.......I wish it had the 616's on it. Really.

Debueller - Congrats.

I'm toying with the idea of doing the same. I've got about the same mileage on my 06. Mind if I ask what you got for it?

KBB lists a trade-in low value at $6200. I had a unusally high miles on mine, so I accepted $6250 for my well-used one, totally stock with all my extras removed. (luggage, tall windsheild, GPS, handguard extenders, Drummer, ect)

Debueller, Jlnance, and I know Drgreg is out there.

Has there been a time in your higher mileage bikes that you have felt that a large part of it was getting loose or worn out? Smoking on start up, noisier engine/transmission, belt cogs/idler, leaks, general feel of non-maintenance item looseness?

I have 24,000 on my '06 and having had normal care it still feels pretty much like new.

Etennuly - Mine has always, and still does, run like a top. I thought the battery had worn out a few weeks ago, but after riding it for a while it charged up fine. The transmission may or may not have gotten louder over time, I can't really remember what it was like new.

My interest in an 08 does have to do with maintenance though. Riding the bike is my only hobby. I really enjoyed the ride I did across the US last year, but I did worry about mechanical issues. I didn't have any, but I'm sure if I let the bike get old enough I will. New bikes are financially stupid, but given it's my only luxury, it seems stupid to be cheap.

I'm not really in a hurry to get something else. The bike is in fine shape. The only reason I'm considering it right now is that there is some farkling I want to do, and I don't want to do that then decide to get a different bike.

my dealer also has a 2007 XB12X in Blue!

because a customer wanted a new 2008 and all the dealer had was the ugly orange and a blue one in stock. It's hard to keep the good-looking black ones in stock!!!

congrats on the new bike!

My '06 looked and ran and rode excellent right up to the time I traded it in. Other than the common issues with drive belts, cooling fans, and rear wheel bearings, mine was an awesome, reliable bike. I just wanted to off it before it depreciated any more. Now I get to start over.

I guess the fact that I'm buying another says something.

And I'll be honest......I wasn't very nice to it sometimes.

Edit....I did have the idle pulley replaced under warranty, along with the drive belt three times.

Here is some more Uly fun:

Another edit.....shortly after this water crossing (about 25 miles) the rear wheel bearings failed. I was 60 miles from camp and ruined the rear wheel and swing arm trying to get back. EVERYTHING was changed under warranty!!

36k on mine and it is running great! I'm even still on the original fan and that sucker runs like there's no tomorrow.

Would be nice to have an '08 because of all the upgrades, but I'm going to run this one for a couple more years.

I knew if anyone would have a comment about my fondness for 616's it would be Chad.

I think it was something about him not liking haywagons?

I have a comment about your fondness for the 616's. I share the same. Never had the sync's but never wanted or needed to, love the feel of the 616's. Couldn't ask for anything more out of a tire so why switch?

The Syncs are ok, but if you really want to hook up with the chunky and the muddy, get yourself a set of the Mt-60s ;) I hope you have gotten the chance to get out and put some miles on her. The wheelie up the hill in the parking lot was pretty impressive btw. Ride safe ride often, come see us when Tahuya is fixed. Say I know where a gently used 06 is awating its next owner and new adventure ;)
