So, I picked up a set of black plastics along with a black seat. However, I was afraid the black color would slow my bike down too much. I decided to give it a rattle can paint job. What do you think? Too Kawi like?

I like it !

You need to do the chin spoiler too, like Maximum has done with his beautiful red Uly.

I put a couple of coats of white satin Krylon fusion for plastic paint as a primer. Then I put several coats of the green fluorescent paint that I used and sanded it with 2000 grit sandpaper between coats.

After the final coat of green, I baked the parts in our oven (my wife was not happy).

After letting it sit for another day, I applied 3-4 Krylon Acrylic Clear coats. The pieces looked pretty good at this point, but I felt they were still missing something.

Then I went to Michael's craft store and saw some plasti-kote brand Color Fleck Halographic clear finish. I bought two 6 oz. cans and applied them to the pieces in several coats.

Finally, I baked the pieces in our oven at around 150*F for about an hour each. This time I waited until my wife left the house, but she wasn't gone quite long enough and noticed the smell upon return. Needless to say, I took her out to dinner that night.

Anyway, it looks good from 10 feet, but I'm not that happy with it. I like the color, but I'm no painter. Too many imperfections.

***One note of caution to anyone thinking about doing something similar. I think I baked the pieces too much or under too much heat. They actually shrunk in size and it was a little difficult to install the flyscreen. I had to really pull and flex to get the holes in the plastic to line up with the holes in the metal frame. Also, noticed the airbox cover seemed to fit a lot tighter than my orange one.***

Did you fit them on the bike BEFORE you painted and baked them? I got a different front flyscreen and had troubles fitting it as well.

I believe that there are slight fitting differences between each piece.

I think a darker silver would look nice on our bikes too.

I've had several accidents putting things in the oven as well...(drying out a cell phone or two comes to mind - they melt easily). Now every time some thing breaks the wife says; "Hey, lets put it in the oven"

Oh yeah, her work badge de-laminated so I put that in the oven too and it melted into a wade - she took it to work and said my husband did this.

My oven gets too hot.

That's what happens when you've got the balls to be creative. Sometimes you end up with something really cool. Congratulations. The bike looks great!

No, that would have made too much sense. I'm more of jump right in and screw everything up royally, without weighing all the consequences, kinda guy.

Did you preheat and use a baking sheet?

No, but I did cover the lower rack with aluminum foil to keep the direct heat from the lower coil from possibly melting pieces closest to it.

I like it. Green is not my color, but I like the change. I hope you're at Homecoming so I can see the bike in person. I've got a few changes in mind for my Uly,(and quite a few changes for Terri's Ss) and I love to look at other people's bikes to see what they've done.

My uly is on its 4th color, all praise be to Krylon. When I find the perfect color, I'll do it right.}
