Although for a stock seat I'm pretty impressed with the Uly, 100 miles is pretty much as far as I can ride before I have to give my ass a break. I have thought about getting a Corbin but they are quite pricey and I don't really want to lose any of the seat height. Has anyone tried an airhawk seat pad for long distances? I heard that gel seats really aren't worth a crap. Ideas? | ||

I have the 06 low seat with gel that is very comfortable. I like it much better than stock. The stock one cut into my legs. | ||

Which seat does your bike have? Your profile says its an 07 bike so i will assume its the 07 seat. Buell offers 3 seats: 2006 Seat 2007/8 Seat Low Seat Most say the 06 seat has the best comfort, but i haven't tried it. The 06 seat is a bit taller than the 07 and low seat. I haven't heard much about the corbin yet. | ||

It should be the stock 07 seat(Although the bike was manufactured in 06) In general I don't mind the seat, I just don't have enough padding on my ass and my beer gut adds to a minor weight problem. I have a 32" inseam and haven't had a problem with the seat cutting into my legs. | ||

Try a gel pad. I had the same complaints with the 06 stock seat. I tried the low/gel seat but didn't really feel any difference and I felt the lower position caused more flexion in my knees ( i have bad knees and this was not a good thing) I bought a "butt buffer" gel pad and it has worked out great for longer rides. The pad isn't perfect - it doesn't feel any more comfortable, and my rear still gets sore, but it gets less sore and it takes longer to get sore than without the pad $60 was a lot easier to swallow than the cost of the alternatives. | ||

I have an airhawk that I used extensively on my old HD Road Glide. I wouldn't leave for a long trip without it. I tried it on my Uly, but it adds to the ride height, and I almost dumped the bike a couple of times at gas stations. Now I use a bead attachment that helps with eliminating pressure points and air circulation. www.beadrider.com | ||

I have the Air Hawk too. I only use it for long non sporty trips. I use just enough air to make it work but it still increases height. On rides less than 300 miles I don't need it and on the long trips I ride until I need help before using it. At that point it is really welcome and does very well. It takes a few miles to get settled in for real comfort. Stop lights and short trips it is a pain because you just get settled and then you have to move again. | ||

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll try a few of these cheaper alternatives before I drop 500 bones on a Corbin. | ||

I have a custom Gel Seat on my CityX. I would not trade it for anything. 18k miles in a year, can ride all day, and all day the next day, on road and off. Talk to your local Upulstry shop, you might be surprised at how cheap it is. and you get to keep the seat height exactly where you want it. | ||

My '06 seat is almost perfect. The darn seams get irritating after 5 or 6 days on the road though. I may consider a butt buffer pad. | ||

I use my 06 stock seat for longer trips in the cooler weather. But during the hotter months, I develop the dreaded monkey butt due to heat and the vinyl seal cover, even with Olympia Air Glide pants. To counter act this, I use the 07/08 seat with a custom beaded seat cover. I bought one from Wally World mqde for a car seat for $8.88 and used some 50lb fishing line to cut and modify it to fit the seat. I did a Saddle Sore 1000 on this with out an issue. No butt burn, no redness...nothing but comfort. I have tried the sheep skin butt pad as well. It works...but not as good as the beaded seat cover. The Air Hawk...it's okay...but expensive and the beaded seat cover works better. I haven't tried the saddle man gel cover. I also wear bicycling shorts with the chamois pad sewn in. It helps a bunch as well. You want some good moisture wicking undies...The standard tighty whities or cotton boxers, work against you. Some Under Armor type compression shorts help. My standard high mile (over 500 miles/day) set-up is as follows: Moisture Wicking Compression Shorts Some Baby Powder, applied down below 07/08 Seat w/ Beaded Seat Cover | ||

06 Seat caused numbness in the tail bone. Corbin was like trying to ride a greased pig. Nothing quite like grabbing a handful of brake and sliding all over the place. 07 Same as 06 only it occurred at 80 miles vs 60. Custom seat from Sargent, good to go. | ||

I had a custom shop take the sharp edge off the stock 06 seat and replace it with some soft foam - great difference, no more burn, nice comfortable platform. |
