Anybody changed these out? I'm talking about the four pins that hold the shield to the flyscreen.

I've got some spares and I can't see how they would remove/replace from the shield without trauma. I want to pull the bottom two and replace them with the Tall Shield lower fasteners.

Tips?

I ordered an extra set of pins when I ordered my ZG windscreen, but the pins did not come in when the screen did, or before I was leaving on a trip.

With desperation setting in, I worked the stock pins out from the stock windscreen, using a very small screwdriver from the backside of the screen. And a lot of patience. Lubrication helps.

The pins got only very slightly buggered up, and don't show any damage from the outside (front).

Putting them in was easy, a little spit and pressure.

My new pins were in when I got back, they now stay in place, so I just pop on whichever windscreen I want for the occasion.

...ya gotta love HD - I just ordered 4 from my dealer yesterday after I ordered the ZG screen. They were all of $5.

Thanks guys. You both mention your ZG screens being mounted with the stock Uly pins.

The reason for the Uly Tall Shield redesign IIRC was because wind pressure leverage on the taller shield was pulling the lower pins out at speed. That's the reason I'm replacing the lowers on my stock shield, I'm gonna try my Laminar Lip where it's designed to be used and I don't want to replicate the pin-pullout problem.

Any problems with all four stock pins with your ZG's?

I've used the four stock pins on my ZG for 3,000 miles or so with no issues. I fully agree with you to replace the lowers if you put on a Lip. If you compare the old and new tall Uly windshields, the biggest change was to almost totally remove the lip at the top of the old design. Please post the results of putting the Lip on a ZG.

Well bummer... just pushed out a stock pin, actually came out easier than I expected.

Problem is the Tall Shield lower units don't fit the stock shield. Back to square one and the hardware store.

Can't we just run some bolts with rubber washers in there?

I have yet to receive my ZG +4', but i thought I might just run some bolts, if it seems the plugs are too weak.

I have been using the hardware that came with a Parabellum windshield (T nuts, bolts, plastic bolt caps, and rubber laminated washers). It sure is secure...but not as convenient as the pins for removal (but not a big deal for me).

8,000+ miles on my Uly with the ZG screen including blasts up to max speed (bouncing off the rev limiter in top gear) and had no problem at all with the lower pins. Might be different with a lip though I guess?

Yeah I'll do something along those lines.

Don't know, that's why I want to fasten it down, no surprises.

I've never seen the before-recall Uly Tall Shield, but I've heard that before. Maybe with the secure bottom mounts they should have left that lip because my after-recall Tall Shield sucks...

Just took a test ride in the rain with the Lip on the stocker, I'm sold! It's so much better than the Buell Tall it isn't funny. Goofy looking IMO but I don't care about that stuff as long as it works. Up to 80 mph there doesn't look to be much pressure against the (temporary) stock pins.

Now to find out why the Rainguard liner in my jacket doesn't work any more...
