Out for a ride yesterday just tooling around some back roads. Headed into town to have lunch with my wife. When leaving the Uly quit twice on my while trying to take off. Once underway everything seemed fine. Stopped at the post office to check my PO Box, jumped back on, fired her up, turned the bars to the right and she quit. So I sat there and did this about three times with the same result. Ran fine on the way home as long as I did not turn the bars full lock to the right. Go the front torn apart and cut the wrap off of the wiring harness. Seems to be the larger gauge red wire that is having issues right at the steering head. Should be a somewhat easy fix. Anyone have a good source for the wire bundle wrap? | ||

Glad you found the problem. It seems that the problems that people find are pretty easy fixes, for the most part. | ||

Yeah fortunately it was somewhere in the harness that does not require dropping the motor out to get to. I am hoping I can find some good 5 mil vinyl tape locally.....supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow. I have been riding in temps in the 30s and the 60s would feel like a summer ride.... Sometimes my headlights would go out at full right lock. Also, the turn signal indicator would stop flashing at full right lock if I had the right blinker on. I dropped it off at the dealership a couple of days ago, and they fixed it under warranty. | ||

Found the culprit. It is the main power lead coming to the ignition. The splice is right where the harness comes through the steering stem and flexes right on this splice. Talk about the mother of bad ideas. A little bit of solder, six extra inches of wire, shrink tube and some waterproof harness rap and all is well in uly land.  While I was at it I figured I would slap a new set of plugs in it. I am amazed that the rear plug looked to be in better condition than the front. You would think it would be the other way around.  About an hour in the garage and 12 bucks at Advance and she it purring like a kitten. | ||

The rear jug is the one that the computer monitors for temperature and oxygen output. My X1 always has the nicer looking plug in the rear. | ||

I have used the brush on electrical tape. it works good. also used it a few weeks ago to patch a small tear in a dirt bike seat cover. held up pretty good. |
