Just by dumb luck, the wife and I both had yesterday off, so we went shopping. Really didn't plan on buying, but the dealership had a 2008 Uly in stock in Barricade Orange. They also had a Blast for the wife, so we put down deposit yesterday.

I will have my Ulysses in January!

Glad you made it over here as well.

You will have more fun with your Uly than should be legally allowed.

Most things I do on MY Uly aren't legally allowed.

"I see you work at a nuclear power plant. Welcome aboard, Homer."

Duh!

Thanks for the congrats everyone. I have been watching this site for a few months to get ideas for what I might want to do to my new toy.

Also, with the wife getting a Blast, I have been looking at the Thumper section with her to get a feel for what sort of mods are out there and how the Blast does on longer trips.

Skyclad, the Blast can do really well on longer trips. It's not happiest at extended 80+ MPH freeway jaunts, but it'll run 70MPH comfortably all day and just eats miles on two-laners and backroads. Check out www.whereismaggiemae.com and see what this young lady has done to her Blast to make it a better long distance scoot.

BTW congrats on the Buell purchases. I got a '06 this year. I have a bunch of bikes, but they are gathering dust... except my Uly.

I don't think that we have to worry to much about 80+mph. Not for a couple of months anyway...

She should be good to go for road trips. Hell, she is only 5' tall and comes in at about 115 pounds. It's like she and the Blast were made for each other, as long as she sticks with the low seat.

Glad to be here. I actually live up in Republic, Washington. Bought the Uly from Big Sky because they gave me a good price. $12,999 with hb's, trunk and deluxe tankbag. I have a confession. I just called my salesman and had him switch my order to a BLACK Uly! Apparently now I'm not going to get attacked by wimminz but I will be much faster in chasing down the ones trying to get away. I too am looking at a Blast for the wife and was concerned about her being able to ride long distance comfortably.

I have an '06 Uly and I bought my wife an '01 Blast.

The Uly does seven hundred mile days no problem.

The wife does one hundred mile days. On her Blast or on the back of mine, she is usually spent at about a hundred.

I have done 190 miles in a day on the Blast, no problem. I consider it my back-up to my Uly. I had to ride it only once as a back-up so far, but really I don't mind riding it at all. It is a real peg dragger and a hoot to ride!

Yeah, the Blast is a fun little thing. However, being that I am 6'3" and in the 300 pound range, little is a big word when talking about the Blast.

I rode a friends home from the dealer for him when he was down with a broken arm. Think Shriner's parade and you will have a good idea of what I looked like.

Skyclad,
Has your proctologist located that Blast yet?

I am bringing it home tomorrow, so don't expect to see much posting from me. I will be far too busy riding on the warm(er) days.

Let's see, Accuweather says there will be highs in the 50's and 40's until Sunday. Break in period is 500 miles...yeah, I should be done with that before it snows again.

'Tis done!!! I picked my '06 model Uly up from Oxford Harley Davidson in England on January 2nd. and rode her home to Wales in -2C. It was a great ride home!!!!

Took SWBO out on it yesterday. I asked her "How was it for you dear"?

"My hands are cold" she repied.

On my GS, she would have been complaining about cramps in her thighs long ago!!! Result

I hope your '06 Uly is as good to you as mine has been to me! Most enjoyable motorcycle I've ever owned!

I got it and the only problem that I have to report is facial cramping due to the constant grin under the helmet.

That is the best "problem" to have. We all seem to suffer from that. Enjoy it to the fullest.

I got home from work yesterday and it was still close to 50 degrees, so I hop in the Uly and head out for a ride. There is a nice little twisty road that I wanted to play on and I remembered the dirt road that connects to it in two places.

"The Uly is made for dirt roads," I thought to myself, "let's see how it does."

I get to the top of the dirt road and there is a sign warning to road is closed ahead...well, it wasn't closed there, so off I went. I get about a mile back into it before I get to a gate. Hmmm, closed for the winter due to no maintenance? Sounds good to me, and I can easily get the bike past the gate. I decided to go check out the other end, just to make sure that I could get past that gate, or at least turn around. It was tight, but I made it after taking the saddle bags off.

The section that was closed was only about 1/2 mile long, but it was nice to check it out. The road condition was poor to say the least, with several washouts along the way. Good fun. Getting past the upper gate was easy, though the dirt up there was rather moist and slick. back end kicked out just enough to remind me that I was riding a 500 pound machine, NOT a real dirt bike.

Yep, I can see me having lots of fun on this bike. I am happier with it every time that I ride.
