Has anyone else experienced their fuel light coming on when you have an almost full tank of gas? I filled up the other day put 40miles on the tank and the fuel light came on when I started the bike. After I started riding it went off and then came back on about 20 miles into the ride then off and back on when I stopped. Any ideas of what is going on. I have 33,000 miles and no major problems except battery died and the usual, fan problem.

Thanks for any help.

Brian

There have been reports of wires chaffing in the fuel pump assembly. Erratic low fuel indicator operation is one of the symptoms.

Yes I agree with Teeps. I posted a pic of the offending problem of chaffing wires on the pump assembly sometime back. Check the archives and maybe you can find the pic.

The problem will not resolve itself so you better take out the pump and have a look before it gets worse.

My fuel low light was Intermittent from 11,000 to 14,000...when it finally was on all the time, then the dealer fixed it.

I thought they said it was the sensor, but I didn't ask too many questions. During that 3,000 miles I took it to the dealer a couple times, but it wouldn't fail while at the dealership.

Buelltoys,
I had the same issue and the tech told me that it is the fuel sensor in the fuel pump. If it is under warranty, take it to the dealer and let them fix it. They will replace the fuel pump.

I had the same thing happen to me.

The part that went bad is #P0789.K (SENSOR, low level)

If your dealer orders that for you have them order part # P0806.K (FILTER, fuel, internal) at the same time. Since you have it out you should just go ahead and replace it.
