For those who have been communicating with SW, is there anyway we could do the measurement / fit work remotely and send them the specs?

Honestly I think there is not enough profit for SW Motech if they can't sell a couple hundred sets. But please be patient till I talked to them. Ride safe Werner

What's up everyone? As far as SW-Motech is concerned, I think we need to make sure they manufacture these for the Ulysses:

They are the Trax Panniers that should be available spring, '08. What do you guys think?

News from SW Motech.
Just talked to the owner, Jürgen Swora.
First of all, they are still interested in producing the removable brackets. But they are having problems with the development of other and more important products. Two engineers are on sick leave. They have 70 new bikes sitting for development. They are supplier for certain big brands and of course they come first. Also they are in the process to set up the production line for their new luggage system.
Fact is, there will be no prototyping before April / May (or even later) for the Uly. I told Jürgen that he can borrow my Uly anytime, because I still have my Road King to ride. But if I don't hear from them by the middle of April I will contact them again and in case of further delay buy a Fehling bracket and Givi cases because in June I want to ride the Alps. Honestly I would prefer the removable ones. So lets wait and see. I keep you guys informed. Ride safe Werner}

Wener,

First thank you for getting a more clear update from the folks at SW Motech. Just to be clear, due to work on other bikes and being shorthanded, we really don't have any firm timeline for the brackets.

I am very disappointed but at least know I can stop waiting now. The original contacts to SW took place last summer and while there has been some encouraging responses I am afraid we are not seen as an important opportunity for them right now.

If that's the case, if any fabrication pros on the list might be able to come up with a knock-off, drop me a PM since I'm still ready to buy.

Sean,

I'm with you. I cannot imagine anyone buying the factory brackets if these were to be made. You get a clean look when the bags are off and the option to use many brands of bags including the factory ones.

Yep, that is a bummer that SW Motech makes these available for virtually every BMW model including the the F650 but, has little interest in the the Uly.

Seems like there are two parts to their Quick disconnect product....the frame fort he bags and then the mounting "tabs" or points. The frame is the same for all the bags on the web site pictures so the mounting tabs is the the engineering and fab. Would be a great help to have one of the SW Motech frames in-hand and then try to fit up mounting points on the Uly. From that point it would be a matter of suitable mounting points for the tabs and then try to borrow a SW Motech design.

Interesting how many different mounting tabs SW Motech has developed and built for different motorcycles when you look at their web site.

I believe the Uly would be easy to to make since they already know where the factory mounts are placed and there is really nothing that gets in the way of placement. If they were motivated these could be made very quickly.

After looking at blow-up pdf's of the install instructions on a F800 and a parts list I think a good craftsman could purchase existing SW Motech parts and hobble together a very doable fitment on the Uly. Check out the pdf document on this link under the header "related files"

Hi Folks,
Jürgen told me they would need my bike for approximately one week. For the long rear end it is not so easy to come up with mountings that still look good. I remember when Krauser sold universal mountings for their brackets in the 80th. Those you had to cut and bend and they looked like crap. I don't want that on my good looking baby.

Anyone know of a luggage rack for Uly other than Twisted Throttle or factory?
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/imagecatalogue/imag eview/8462/?RefererURL=/trade/productview/3745/474 /

I want to maintain the use of the Triple-Tail and Buell's rack is not available independent of the saddle bag kit. I already have a nice ammo can mount system for that so I don't want to buy a duplicate system.

Joules,

I have the Fehling racks, which are the racks available through Twisted Throttle.

The toprack will mount independently of the sideracks, and retains full use of the OEM Triple Tail.

HTH.

The description on the TT site says that the Fehling racks are for Givi luggage.

Are they specifically for Givi luggage or can you mount other luggage...such as various Heppco bags to them?

Tipsy,

The Fehling racks are built to accommodate Givi luggage cases. They would not work with H&B cases because those use different latches and locking designs.

Because the Fehling racks are made of tubular steel, however, they should work fine with any of the more "generic" designs of aluminum cases, such as Happy Trails, Touratech, or Zarges. Most of these cases can mount using a more universal, puck-style hardware that should work with any tubular style rack.

FWIW, since the Fehling racks stick out far enough to clear the passenger grab rails, I don't think you'd experience any clearance problems with top-opening cases, as you might with the H&B racks. However, I haven't tried this out, so YMMV.

I hope this all makes sense.

Final Update. Just had another conversation with Jürgen from SW- Motech.
They will definitive not produce them for the Uly. There is simply not enough demand worldwide. Sorry for the bad news.

Any new ideas for a rear rack/case other than Buell?
