I have exceeded the traction limits on both Pirelli Stradas and Dunlop D616. To be fair though, the D616 lost grip on frost covered sand in 28°F temps. Other than that, I never complained about the grip of the D616. They were an excellent rain tire and the best of the tires I have had on the Uly so far off road. The problem I did have with the D616 was the high speed wiggle caused by cupping of the front tire, and the bike felt nervous leaned over.
I replaced the D616 with Pirelli Diablo Stradas because I could not find Syncs when needed. I never really liked the Stradas either. When new the bike really had a fast turn in that I really enjoyed, but after a few miles I realized the front end followed grooves in the pavement like a bias-ply tire. The profile of the tire I believe was the problem. The best part of the Stradas was life span. 11,000 miles out of a front tire and 5200 miles out of a rear was the best on the Uly so far.
So I reacted to the Stradas with Continental Sport Attacks. The flat profile of the tire slowed the turn in on the bike and for a while I enjoyed that. One thing about the Continentals, they stuck like glue. The only Sport Tire I ever put on the Uly, even in cold temperatures, the Uly never slipped. The problem with a pure sport tire, life span. 2600 miles for the rear and 5000 miles for the front was more than my pocket book could spare.
So a finally I have a set of Sync tires on the Uly and I think I have found the best profile on any tire to date. With the Syncs on the Uly the bike turns in almost as quick as the Stradas, but with a stability the Stradas lacked. I truly love these tires. The bike holds a line better than ever but eager to change without a fuss. The tire almost seems to have better traction on its side than in the middle. Webe Thumpin and I got the same mileage out the last set of tires (Sync vs Stradas), so I hope I can get the same mileage out the Syncs as I did the Stradas. If so, I have found my tire for the Uly. |

616's will stick if they're warm -- unforgiving bricks when they're cold.
I'm very happy with the Sync's. Stable and predictable is probably how I'd describe them. |

I can't comment on the total miles. I usually replace them for the start of a trip before they're done.
The Dunlops seem to cup a lot quicker than the scorpions, but I did have a lot of freeway miles on them.
The scorpions really shine in the rain, but mainly they just feel right. |

Well...the Suzi is faster in the straights, but I'm limited in the corners by an gastro intestinal problem.....not enough guts. 
I swear, I think I can ride the Uly faster in the corners because it's SOOOOO much more comfortable for me and I can move off the bike faster and easier. The Gixxer is very tight for me.
As for the 1125R...I did sit on one, and it's a Goldwing compared to the Gixer....but.....So far, I've not seen an 1125 for sale anywhere. I don't happen to have $11,500 laying around for a bike that will eventually end up in the gravel trap. The Gixxer is so damn easy to find parts for. I replaced the entire engine for $400!
I'd part with the factory motor for a small fee. It only needs 3rd gear fixed, and it's good to go.
Since this is a tire thread....I think I'll be spooning my track take off Diablo Corsa III dual compound tires on to the Uly.
No problem with stick then! LOL! |
