Long live the King. CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69. Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs. Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills. |

I met Evel about 10 years or so ago in Vegas. He was kind enough to spend about 15 min. talking with the three of us. A real nice down-to-earth kinda guy. I was very impressed. Sad to hear about his passing - he was a real pioneer, in many ways. . |

He probably never would of gotten hurt like he did if the suspensions he was using were equal to modern bike suspensions. He had king kong balls. May he rest in peace and comfort. |

Sorry to hear of his passing. With all his broken bones, don't you know he had to be a hurtin' dude when he got out of bed in the morning. |

When I heard the news of his passing I found it rather ironic that he died of a disease. It's like Lawrence of Arabia surviving all those battles only to come home and take a peaceful last ride on his motorcycle! May he rest in peace. |
