On my 12S, I pay $375. I go through AAA Insurance and have my house, 2 cars, and motorcycle through them.

Now that I think of it, I think AAA contracts out to Progressive. When I got into my accident this year, it was a Progressive claims adjuster that came to look at the bike. They took care of me pretty good.

There was an article in the recent AMA mag and they state that the National Insurance Association is redubbing all motorcycles. The Uly, is classified as a sportbike along with many of the other naked modern UJM's out there. So that's why the costly.

I pay $300 a year, full coverage with Allstate. But then again, they have 2 other bikes, a car and my house. They used to have two cars as well, but I sold one. I have also been with them for over 10 years.

Oh and BTW....The NIA also classifies the Blast as a sportbike...yes that's right...the Blast.

Progressive had the best rate I could find. I am paying a little more because I totaled my first Uly with them. But they were still quite a bit cheaper than anyone else I could find for my second Uly.

Wanna hear some messed up shit? When I bought my Uly, my existing moto insurance company from my previous bike wanted $3600/yr. I was like WTF? I ended up getting insurance thru the HD dealer for $800/yr. (still very high).

Just a month or so ago, I got a quote to see if i could find cheaper, and they quoted $2900 because the Uly is a, get this...SUPERSPORT!!! LOL!!! I mean it's a fun bike, but supersport it is not.

BTW, my driving record is spotless! I don't get it. I think it's just a California thing.

I gotta add my two cents worth on this. I am a licensed insurance agent but don't currently sell (never give up your license...motorcycle, insurance, etc). All of you are throwing premiums out there without comparing coverages! That will have a large impact on what you pay. Still my advice, never settle for state minimum limits! I pay $300/year with a $250 deductible comp & collision and liability limits of 100/300/50.

Hi Marlinrider,

very good point and I would also like to add that the costs vary widely depending on your location. It would be nice to know this factor as well with the above posts.

I had a 2007 ULY and a 1987 BMW insured for around $525 in Maine. I now live in North Carolina but still have a place in Maine which I frequent. The BMW alone is around $375 in NC and the ULY about the same in Maine where it resides. To insure both in NC would cost me around $1400! I'm an old guy with a clean record in regard to accidents too. I'm wondering what others pay in NC?

Glenn,

My first reaction to your predicament is related to the riding season which correlates to exposure. Year-'round in NC vs ? (very short) in Maine. Probably others as well.

HI,

Yes Gotj I thought about the longer season too. I ride for 8 months in Maine. I was out three days over the Holiday and had a great time. Coldest was around 24. Thanks God for my heated jacket, socks and Polly grips!

Luftkoph I just checked Sentry but they don't sell motorcycle insurance in NC.

I was in one hell of a crash 2.5 years ago, SUV pulled out just enough to hit me. Broken bones, shoulder replacement, etc etc.

Insurance paid for the bike - denied the personal injury - said they didn't think it was their fault afterall. In short - get lost. Now we're in a lawyers paradise.

My advice - don't skimp on your insurance. Shop around. Katrina was a good gauge - see who paid out and see which insurance companies welched out and are now being sued. If you have to pay extra for QUALITY insurance from a QUALITY company, then do it. Zillions of dollars are spent for ads instead of QUALITY. I'm looking to switch companies too. Insurance is a biz. A lot of these so called managers only look for their quarterly bonuses.

Here's another piece of advice. Kerr leather jackets. Heavy as hell but I lost count after 7 rolls. Not a stitch broken. My new Uly is the 1st bike I've owned since the crash. Good protective gear can help - In the military, we called it the golden bb. Just out of the blue, BANG, you take a hit.

Cover your ass. LOLOLOL

I live on the NC coast. Pay $1217/year to Progressive for my '04 ST-1300A and '06 Uly. Coverage is $250/500/100 liability and $1000 deductible collision and comprehensive. Doesn't cost a great deal more to insure an'07 Lexus, an '07 Acura, and a '90 Mustang convertible.
