Hello everyone, About two weeks ago I picked up an '06 Ulysses with less than 2k miles on it. This is my first bike in many years and I really love riding it. This is the biggest bike I've ever ridden, but I find it very easy to handle.

I've been lurking around here and a few other Buell forums, but I find this one to be the most active and have the most information.

I live near Sacramento Ca. in the Sierra foothills. My son bought a Buell Blast last summer, and now we can go riding together.

I just though I would pop in and introduce myself right now. I'm sure I'll have many questions as I go along.

Hey Gary welcome. I live in Tracy. There is a great group of Buell riders in Modesto. They are the Central Valley Thunder Bikes and listed on the Buell website. lets ride!

Glad you're hear. Glad you got the slower orange one.

Some find the fast black too much to handle. : D

Gary:

Welcome aboard . . . . you've found a dandy place for information about your Buell and some fun folks and places to ride.

I know the Sacto area pretty well and I'll bet you have a great time with the Ulysses.

Go to have you here.

Gary,

Welcome to the forum. The Uly is by far the largest bike I've ridden. I'm 5'8" with a 29" inseam. There's no way that I could ride a similarly dimensioned motorcycle from any other manufacturer, but with Buell's design philosophy they put out a product that is so well balanced I can pull it off - if barely.

I think you'll soon see the Uly go from the largest bike you've ever ridden to the best one. There were four in my garage when I got mine, and now it's the sole survivor of scooter attrition.

Enjoy the ride.

Welcome Gary. I think you'll find (like me) that this is one of the most informative places for the Uly, with with the some of the best folks around. Have fun and be safe.

once you get on the Ulysses, it's hard to get off! But that doesn't have anything to do with the height!!!

Enjoy the new motorcycle, I sure love mine!

welcome to the gang Gary. I picked up my '06 about Julyish and I'm still riding. its in the forties here most mornings. I'm sure you'll enjoy the toy. Don't try to tell the bike to do anything. become one with the bike and ride man, just ride.

Welcome to the dark side Gary. I hope you enjoy your Uly and this site as much as I do. If you are ever up near northern Oregon and need a place to stop for a meal and a good nights sleep or whatever, you will be welcome here at La Casa de Panhead. I'm in the R.A.N. section of this site.
Good roads and many happy miles to you.

Dan

Hi Gary,

I live over the hill in Reno...Amazing roads between your place and mine! Make sure you hit 89 (either way). Tiny 1 1/2 lane Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass is a must...Welcome & Enjoy!

Hello GaryZ28, I also live near Sacramento in the foothills (between Grass Valley and Auburn). I bought a new '06 Ulysses in June and have about 6000 miles on it now... Love the bike. I occasionally ride with a group called "Gold Country Dual Sport Riders" to explore back roads and am the only Buell amongst the dual sport bikes... The bike has proven VERY worthy. I also tour with my wife and commute to work.

Thanks a lot guys! My son and I are thinking about a ride over the hill to reno and maybe Virginia City after winter is over. Maybe we will find a way to include Ebbetts Pass.

Growl, you and I live really close. We should defiantly get together. I live in Newcastle right off I-80 in Newcastle, so we are probably only 20 miles or so apart.

Yeah, let's meet at one of the Starbucks in Auburn (or some such place) then go for a short ride. This is a busy season, with family events on the calendar, but a couple hours should be fun. I am going to test the private message feature in your profile...

The Virginia City is a great ride (you'll find hundreds of bikes there on any weekend during the riding season), but stay away from the center line! TOO many tourists who have never driven on such a steep curvy road makes it scary!

Onemanclan, is mosquito lake up on top of Ebbetts Pass? I think I've ridden that twice when coming home from the coast. If that's it then I too recommend it. When it goes to 1 1/2 lanes weaving between the trees over the top it is a hoot!

You're right Tootal, Mosquito Lake is at the top of Ebbetts pass. Summer before last there was still snow on the banks at the very end of June (when it was 115 degrees in the Sac Valley). When the road became 1 1/2 lanes I thought the highway ended...
