Ok just over 3k on my Scorpion Syncs and the rear is done
Front could go a little longer, but probably change both at same time
Any ideas out there?
I really have enjoyed the stock tires, good grip ,good traction OK wear.
Just wondering what everyone else is doing?

Pirelli diablo Stradas will give you more mileage than the scorpions.

The regular Diablos or the Diablo-T should last about the same as the Scorpions.

I like having more traction than I really need...just in case...so I run the Diablo Corsas.

There are other brands that work well with our bikes, as long as you avoid the Dunlops

The thing is the Dunlop 616 is designed to be a rain tire... I am on my 3rd set of d616's and will get another, even if the rear only lasts 3.5k...

I am now running the Pirelli Stradas, they have been the longest lasting tire I have had in quite some time. We are talking a full 5K on the rear tire this time!! I have tried Dunlops, Avons, and recently Conti Road Attacks and was lucky to get between 3-4K on any of them. The Pirelli front will easily last thru 2 rears. Plus they stick well and wear evenly.

I dumped the 616's precisely because of their poor wet and/or cold road performance. That and the famous rain groove wiggle from the front.

Complete confidence in the Syncs even though I'm getting only 6k from the rears as opposed to 7k from the first 616's.

Michelin has a new dual-compound tire, I'm wondering how that's going to work.

Are we talking road riding or trail/road riding?

For the street, I had the pilot power 2ct's on my firebolt and I'd never need a diff tire. Saw about 4000 miles on the rear.

I have to give the nod to the Perelli Diablo Stada also. I got just over 13000kms on mine which was close to 8000mls. Most of that was 2 up and included some pretty aggressive 2 upping. I have a Bridgestone on now but when it is done the strada is going back on and I am not changing to any other tire.

Curious what the major difference in mileage is related to. Thuderbox says aggressive, two-up riding and gets 8,000. Others getting less than 5,000 smiles. Thoughts?

Stick with the Scorpions. They are great tires, not too expensive, and get decent milage. I got 5500 out of mine, and I can live with that. I could have gotten another 500+ out of the rear, but had it replaced during my 5k service.

I love the 616's. Best rain traction I have ever had on any motorcycle. I have put 6k on two rear tires, both had more to go. Front is only beginning to show triangulation. Will run till about 18k before putting two brand new 616's on.

Had the wobble, adjusted suspension, no more wobble. The 616's have been excellent tires for me performance wise and mileage.

I had no problems with the 616s that came on my Uly. They worked well in temps ranging from the teens to over 90; on dry roads, wet roads and even through some blowing snow and icy conditions on my way to Daytona in '06. I replaced them at 7500 miles with Avon Azaros; which I really liked on my M2. Even though they lasted a long time, I was less than happy with the Avons on my Uly, and replaced them with Pirelli Diablo Stradas, which I really like. I'll probably replace them with two more Stradas when they wear out.
I don't do much off pavement riding, so I don't need a dirt oriented tire.

All I know is I got over 5000 miles out of a rear tire for the first time ever.
That, and they stick like glue on any surface but frozen H2O.
Oh- and they weigh less.
I like the D616 very much.

I was just reading the Pirelli web site and the Scorpion Sync's are also considered more of a rain tire than some of there other sprot bike tires. Not that it matters to me as I'm a huge chicken when riding in the rain. Also interesting is that the Stada is listed as a sport touring tire.

I just put on my thrid sets of Sync's in the last 14000 miles. I really like these tire much more than the 616 that came on the bike.

I think the bike feels much more planted with the pegs on the pavement (and near to) than did the 616's. Turn in is crisper IMHO with the P Sync's. The crown on the front tire of the Sync's are sharper. Swapping bikes with my friends 06 Uly then my 06 Uly with the Scorpion Sync's the differences really stand out.


Interesting that www.MotorCycleSuperStore.com had the Diablo Corsa III's listed at a lower price than the P Sync's at the moment. (3 bucks cheaper at $129). So Cheaper tires for the 1125r!

I changed my D616 rear tire at my 10,000 service just before homecoming. I replace it with another D616. I'm still running the original D616 front tire and it has 16,000 miles on it now. I purchased another new D616 front tire and plan on replacing both tires at the 20,000 service.

I spend more time riding on my rear tire but that may change since I just got my second ticket so I'll have to be good for awhile! lol

Now that my swingarm was replaced, I may try a 616 on the rear end again when it is time. I sure liked it's traction better than the Sync I have now in all conditions. I will never run a 616 on the front again though. That thing was garbage. I think I'm sticking with the MT-60 for a front tire depending on the mileage I get from it. The only other option I'll consider is the Distanzias, but I just don't like the skinny rear. I'll never run pure street tires as I live on a dirt (soft, sandy) road and they just won't cut it.

I've had D616, Conti-Force, Stradas and now Syncs on the Uly.

Best Mileage: The Stradas (11,000 miles on front and 5200 miles with cord showing on the rear)
Best Grip dry pavement: Conti-Force but they were also the least mileage (6000 miles front and 2600 miles rear)
Best feel/turn in: The Sync of which I have only the front on, I am going to put on the Sync rear tire this weekend.
Best wet weather traction: D616.
Best off pavement traction: D616

Mileage on the D616: 8800 miles front with life left but they had to go and 4000 miles on rear. The wiggle over 70mph was driving me crazy.
My favorite front tire on any bike so far on pavement is the Sync.
My least favorite front tire was the Strada. I really did not like the front Strada tire. It's grip was the least of any tire I have had including the old Bias-ply tires that were on my Honda. The Strada also follow groves in the road like my old Bias-Ply tires.
My longest lasting rear tire was on the M2. That was a Dunlop D205 and 5700 miles with cords showing.

My 2ยข on difference in mileage, there is riding style and location to consider. The riding style is obvious but those in the great white north will have longer tire life then those of us in the south. Road temperatures year round are higher here which warm up tires quicker. That is great for grip, but not tire life. Also the road surfaces in the south are chip/seal and courser than that up in the mid-western states. For example, Aydenxb9 moved from here in North Carolina to Indiana. He stated that his tire life improved on the Metzlers M1 he runs on his Lightning from just over 3000 miles in North Carolina, to just over 5000 miles in Indiana, same rider, same bike, same tires, but different location. He also stated that he had to be careful on Indiana roads because they were slick in comparison to North Carolina roads.

Avoid the Avon Storms. Mine feel very solid when I'm riding solo, and they're really good in the rain, but when I pack luggage onto the bike, the front wheel develops a wobble in right hand turns. The wobble is still present without luggage, but it's subtle enough that I usually don't notice unless I'm looking for it.

about 11,000 on my D616's. The back will be replaced before my next big trip, but the front is looking good so far.

my D616 looked like that when I changed it out at my 10,000 miles service. I could have got more miles out of it but I wanted new rubber on before Homecoming. My back tire also had a plug in it since 1,000 miles and you never know when a plug may fail and since the bike was already in the shop for service, I just decided to go ahead and change the back tire. I'm still riding the original front tire and already have 6,000 miles on the rear so I will most likely change tires again at the 20,000 service when it's in the shop.

I feel it's ok for bangin' around town, and my short commute to work, but will change the tire, and probably the rear bearing while it's off, before another long trip. Maybe we got lucky, it seems many people don't get many miles out of them.

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to change out the rear wheel bearing. I've got over 30,000 miles on mine, and they're fine. The rear wheel can only take a few bearing changes before the hub wallows out; and then you'll be replacing the wheel.

Put seals back in place
Good to go

My front tire is original and looks good but on closer inspection it is cupped terribly. Actually rattles my bike as if running bike over bumpy surface. Notice this when pushing bike into garage which has a very smooth floor. Will replace this winter with something other than Dunlop POS. Like the D616 back tire though.

Pirelli Strada on Rear (worn down to cords): 9150 miles. Replaced with Conti Road Attack... I didn't like how extent of wear wasn't evident (other than flatness) on Stradas.

Pirelli Strada on front still has plenty rubber.

I have not had any problem with the 616's. Rear is almost toast with about 5k on it. They've handled well in misty rain or torrential downpours. 616's give good hard pack dirt traction. Not so great on the grass, as the pucker marks on my seat will attest.

I have experienced a VERY SLIGHT intermittent swimming or wobble while cruising for hours at 80+ MPH. Not all that different from other taller bikes that I've ridden. A tire without the longitudinal rain groove would probably eliminate this.

I will use the rear 616 again, until the front wears out. Then I will reexamine my options. I use it primarily for sport-touring so longevity will be a big factor in my next tire purchase.

Bit of a warning; Stradas are very very thin and puncture quite easily.
Otherwise quite good.

Stradas use the same rubber compound as the Syncs (at least the ones we get in Aus do) and thus have pretty similar performance once up to temperature.

I love the Syncs, one of the best road tyres around IMO. Nice linear handling right to the edge (the D616's have the sidewall compound pretruding to ~2mm below the surface, so once you wear down to that you loose a lot of grip at the edges), and respond predictably to pressure changes - easy to get more heat in the rain/cold, keep cooler on the track, etc.

I think the D616's are still the best 'dirt' tyres in our correct sizes.

I plan on trying out the MT60's next.

Never been to the drag strip don't plan on going any time soon.
Anyone can go fast in a straight line, it's the corners that rule.
I have talked with a couple other guys out here (West) 3-4K seems about normal for syncs.
Me thinks heat could be the culprit as myself and a couple of my riding pals try to keep the tires nice and toasty when we ride(FLOG)the bikes on our weekly outings

it's all good. me likes to corner carve too, but i personally would be upset if i was going through expensive rear tires that often.

Scorpion Sync front $ 92.00
Wearing them out so I can replace them every 3-4k miles $ Priceless !
