I have an 08 XB12X and I have never noticed the fan running when the engine is running. It comes on when you shut the bike off. I guess I am just a little hard of hearing? My bike is all stock, runs great and if the fan is coming on it just is not very loud. I have heard complaints about the noise but it just has not been a problem for me? |

I can always tell how warm my engine gets with my homemade oil temperature dip stick. With the outside temps now getting down to freezing at night and only about 60 during daylight, it takes forever for my ULY's oil to get up over 150 degrees F in the swingarm reservoir. Haven't taken any long rides lately at speed because it's chilly out. |

Was on the way home after work yesterday in the rain...I mean monsoon. It was an evil torrential storm spawned from TS Noel off the coast with 40-50 mph wind gusts. I was stuck in first gear clutch slipping traffic for the first 20 miles of the trip. The fan never came on...water cooling I guess. Suddenly the rain stopped. I broke away from the traffic to open road. I was running 70-80 mph with at least a 40 mph head wind. The Uly was working very hard to keep the speed up with the head wind. When I got off the expressway and came to the first stop light, I could hear the fan screaming. Before the light turned green, the fan just stopped. I have never had the fan stop before, while in traffic. Once it comes on, it pretty much stays on till I get home. I thought the fan had finally died, till I switched it off and then it came back to life.
Anyone else had their fan cycle off while sitting in traffic? |

Yep mine comes on and off whenever it wants. Sitting in traffic or not. Depending on the direction of the wind it may or may not run more often. Seriously.
Wonder if a temp sensor got wet or something, tricking the system to turn it off. A long shot. |

Mine has cycled off when idling after it has been on from highway riding. I figure the fan cooled it down and that is the reason. |

I've logged temp with a PDA over a bunch of ride profiles. Under high load such as going down the freeway at speed, it generates a lot more heat and will quickly climb to temps that will trigger the fan. But once in low load condition, the fan will pull the temp back below the 356F necessary to turn the fan back off (383 on 08 models). |

Really?
Once the fan starts on my bike, it only stops running after riding down hill, under decel or neutral throttle for several miles.
I would bet the '08 383F cutoff temp. would work just fine on the '06/'07 Uly too. |

On my 2007, If it is 75 degrees or more, once mine comes on, it never cycles back off. What would it take to reset the sensor to the '08 specs? |
