At 16,000 miles (10 months old) I am beginning to notice that my Uly is starting a little slower than before. It hangs for a second (or less) prior to turning over. I'm thinking that I should replace the battery before it leaves me stranded. Are there any brands (that fit a Uly)out there better than OEM? |

Oh man...be warned. That's what mine did before my stator/regulator took a dump. I ordered a battery from this place: http://www.ebatteriestogo.com/ They have the correct battery for the XB series and free shipping. |

After taking with FB last Saturday, that is what I am afraid of. Can the dealer detect a bad Stator/regulator before it actually leaves me stranded? |

You can always buy a battery but the battery is still under warranty...BMC put a new battery in mine about two weeks ago and it solved the slow starter..The starter would engage, then hesitate, and then the bike would start, but it finally just went dead.. |

Maximum, You should be able to see a bad stator with a DVM (Digital Volt Meter). Just connect the DVM anywhere to your 12V system that is handy (for example the 12V outlets for accessories) and measure your battery voltage. When the bike is sitting with the key on the battery voltage should be right around 12.2 - 12.5 V. When you crank the starter if it drops below 11.8V or so your battery is weak and if voltage doesn't come up to around 13.5V - 14 V when the engine is running there is something wrong with the charging system, ie stator or regulator. If your stator has an issue you will soon know it: the battery voltage will drop below 11 V and all electrical functions will cease. Not a subtle thing. My guess is that your battery is the problem. It seems that the stock battery lasts 22 months.... mine is also about dead. I hope to have a chance to see if my local dealer will warranty it soon. |

At 10 months old your dealer should warranty this - customer concern code 7101, weak or dead battery. |
