Hey everyone...

Well, some of you might remember the problems I was having starting my 06 Uly I bought in May. I changed the plugs with the great help from all of you..thank you so much, it means a lot that I have you at my back for my bike.

It still never idled or ran right, but due to being out of town, it had to wait until my bro could ride it up to the dealer to drop off. It ran, but rough for him he said. Long story short, I picked it up today and according to the receipt, it says TPS reset/Calibrated. They told me it ran like the dickens on the test ride. So they brought it out of the shop for me, I suited up, started it, and it coughed several times, back fired twice and then quit. That's all she wrote. I didn't even get 15 feet from the cashier. They rolled it back in, couldn't get it to start, and two hours later I finally got a ride and left. I don't know any thing more. A call late this afternoon went unreturned.

Any thoughts?

They looked baffled, to their credit. This is a new thing for this dealer, they recently picked up Buell, but their Buell guy was there today, but they have semi restored my faith in the dealer staff...they were telling me how many more of their guys signed up for Buell training. I like the pep, but hate being the test lab rat. On a positive note, all the "biker" dudes there told me welcome to the family and glad they had someone new to talk to while they all waited in the service area... They were fascinated with the Uly and I told them how I loved it, but I can only talk about the 203 miles that are the only ones on it.

Thanks all...I'm just..more baffled and puzzled than upset I guess.

hang in there Ryan, they'll get it going and it will be worth the wait!

I have an 2006 Ulysses and it's been the best motorcycle I've ever owned! Period!!!

16,000 trouble-free miles with not one problem unless you count running over a screw and having to plug the rear tire at 1,000 miles, but I ran it another 9,000 miles with that plug in the tire before getting a new rear tire.

keep the faith in your dealer and the Buell Motorcycle Company to fix your motorcycle and make it right, then you too can enjoy the ride!

Sounds a lot like the Stator problem Troyyz had last May on his '06 Uly. He was told that the stator was not properly mounted at the factory and it was vibrating out of position, until it totally came loose and left him stranded.

I did have the same problem and as Max mentioned it left me stranded in Ft Worth while enroute from Atlanta to Denver. Fortunately the dealer in Denton, TX was able to turn in around in 3 hours. The problem was a rotor cap misalignment at the factory that finally gave up the ghost at mile 1356. Has been a great bike every since. I truly love it. Good luck. Update:
I just talked with the Dealership. They can't tell me anything. They said that they literally don't know, have been working in it all day, but don't know a thing. I was asked about letting it idle, to which I replied, I'd love to let it idle, if it ever started! When I could get it started, I got about only 10 seconds or so of very rough idle then it would quit and it would be a day or so before I could get it started again, then repeat.

Does anyone have any further suggestions? Is this something that Buell customer care would know anything about?

I'd say it's definitely worth a call to Buell Customer Care. Is there another Buell dealer in the area that has more experience/time in with Buells?

This is gonna sound like a stupid question, but in my frustrated state of mind I don't want to miss anything. I'll call Customer Care, but exactly what do I need to tell them since the dealer said they can't tell me anything about what is being done to it now?

Update: Got a voicemail telling me the bike is ready. They said it was fouled plugs. Now I'm puzzled. I just replaced these plugs. I mean just as everyone knows from my thread, at 183 miles. They told me it ran great on the test ride. So then I pick it up a day later and it blows up 15 feet from the garage, it takes the 3 days of diagnosis and "no idea" what it could be and it is somehow fouled up the next time it gets started?

When I get a call back, I guess they'll tell me. I'm very much no mechanic, but it isn't making sense to me. I know everyone is helping me keep the chin up. but it's getting tougher. The love in my heart for this bike is in real conflict with the reality of the money, time and problems I've had in 203 miles.

Do you have lemon laws and do they apply to M/C's in Ohio? The Uly is a great bike when running properly and perhaps they should just give you a replacment one that runs well and be on with it. I admire your patience, but the riding season is almost over

That dealer is selling Buells well, but everything else about them is a "growth edge", and you are on it.

They seem to have a good attitude, which is something, but they have room to improve with regards to execution.

The whole "wait a day to get it to start again" is utter BS as well. Getting it to start is not their problem... the fact that it does NOT start is their problem... so when it won't start, thats when they need to be fixing it.

There is another good dealer you can try... a bit of a haul, but you can get there in an hour or so. Let me know if I can help, I am just up the street in Lebanon.

Update:
Picked Raider up today. The Buell mech wasn't in, but the guy who helped me gave me what he knew of the low down. He couldn't find the written order. I was told essentially that the computer was off and kept dumping fuel on to the plugs. They changed the plugs(3rd set mind you in its 203 mile lifetime) and reset the computer. Said they dynoed it, whatever that was supposed to mean. Said they'd call me about how it was doing. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that, they have never before, but this guy seemed to really be trying. On the plus side, seemed to run real well on the way home. It was the first time I was behind the taller factory screen, not crazy about it but its gonna stay. I learned that I am in love with my new Tourmaster jacket, it covered the only parts that weren't wet and freezing.

I give you both credit for staying with this. Let's hope that your patience has paid off for both of you and any future Buellers that might need service from this dealership. I hope you get to enjoy your Uly before winter hits.

Keep an eye out for the WV Rally next summer...Wolfridgerider pulls this event together.

Thanks, it's been difficult, but patience was the only tool I had. Exploding wasn't going to help me or make it magically run. I hope this is the final serious issue and maybe I can get to riding my motorcycle.

As for WV, the wife and I would love it. Her first Masters degree was from WVU, from the Industrial Relations department at the college of business and economics. She got a 4.0 there, and I have married way above my pay grade. The Uly was her idea of a present for me... We also picked up a "MadMap" based on the recs from the board for Ohio, WV and KY and it looks awesome. We can't wait to try the rides.

Now I can finally put on the luggage that's still sitting in the original boxes for the bike. Any bugaboos or gotchas I need to know to install it myself?

I believe the best instruction I remember Carlos giving when Mark asked was, be sure to follow the order sequence on the bolts attaching the frame work to the bike. Finger tighten first until all align. Then tighten for the duration. This will probably also try your patience!

The bags are great frame protectors. If you don't have the bag liners yet, get them. They are great. I'm sure you've also read all the threads about the latches. They are weak, but with care will hold. Just be sure to NEVER force closure, as they are sure to snap. Also make sure that everything is fulling in the bag and not in the way of the sides when trying to close the bags. If you cannot close the latch without any force, recheck the contents and try again.
