Oops... i did it again... and I'm not talking about getting out of a car without underwear on. I wrecked my Uly again. 3rd time in 3 weeks. This time she didn't drive away. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but the bike is at Danbury HD / Buell right now. What did happen was the rear shock mount broke and broke the hugger and went straight to the tire. Instant lock up at about 50mph as i was pulling away from a light. So the tire locked, i lost control of the bike, got thrown off and i rolled many many times till i came to a stop on the road, bike was maybe 150-200 ft ahead of me. Apparently the bike tumbled and flipped or something too, as it took a beating everywhere. Some of the damage includes top case getting ripped off the bike, windshield and carbon fly screen are heavily scratched with some of the carbon screen torn off, left PIAA light destroyed, gashes on the TOP of my Turono mirrors, tank bag got ripped right off the bike with the straps still attached to the bike, left frame puck is destroyed and a small mark in the frame just to the front of it. The whole front fairing and stuff is damaged and out of place. Not sure what else is wrong but it is at the dealer now. Damage to me consists of hurting left foot, possibly broken, and some scrapes and stuff mostly on wrists and the small gap between my jacket and pants. I live to write about it, as my Buell helmet looks like it got mauled by Wolverine. Unfortunately i have no pics, my camera was home for once and we took it straight to the dealer to get the ball rolling on it. Looks like my riding season is done. : (

Tramp, I'm still going to HH3, just ill have to take my cage or steal a bike or something, i don't give a crap how much i hurt, ill be there.

ATGATT, proven 3 times in 3 weeks, oh yea my BAS worked again :P

Dude....I'm not sure what to say. I'm glad you are OK and able to walk away. As we all know, bikes can be fixed. Keep us posted and take care of yourself. Good thing winter is fast approaching...being without the bike during prime riding season would suck.

Froggy sorry to hear that .Glad you are ok tough. I almost hit a deer this morning on the way to work. I just turned on the road were I work and a 8 point buck ran in front of me. Yes he was close enough to count the points in the dark!I saw him before he got in the road so I had time to slow down.

Froggy - Remember that any ride you can walk away from, even if you are limping, is a good one. You are more important than any motorcycle ever made. I hope the pain passes quickly and you get back on that horse and ride as soon as possible.

Sucks dude! Sounds like there was some metal fatigue. Repetitive crashes? I can't imagine that, though.

Heal quick. I'd bet insurance totals it.

Thanks guys, its great to have support such as badweb, its like a giant happy family. : )

As for the shock, not sure if it was damaged, but if it was i never noticed it. As you all know, i am rough on the bike both on and off road, I'm not sure if maybe i put a stress crack in it off roading and it finally gave, or if the something else happened and the shock broke as result of of the wreck.

Ulywife / M2nc, depending on the outcome of this, i got a almost new Uly muffler. Its yours if it isn't going back on the bike or becoming a drummer. 1200 miles on it, no dents (somehow) : )

Glad to see you are doing OK except for that foot. Hope it heals fast. I know how that feels. Keep us updated about repairs please as I'm going through them myself.

Once again I'm glad you're OK. I'm really really glad that you wear your gear!

I'd bet that the shock mount was damaged in one of the previous crack-ups. It isn't something obvious, or even commonly
damaged so I could well imagine over-looking it. The stress of launching was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I hope that repairs go well, but at least the cold wet weather is coming so you won't miss too much riding.

I think my 2006 Ulysses was trying to kill me also. Mine was evil I switched back to a Firebolt but miss my Ulysses but not the fear it evoked in me that something was going to go wrong any second.

Froggy,
Glad you lived to tell the tale. Did you have full coverage on your bike? If that happened to me, I just would be out the entire bike as I only carry liability. Anyway, you are OK for the most part and that is what counts. Too bad that wasn't filmed as it would have been great viewing on YouTube.

Now you have to be pre disastered. There no way that could happen to you next week. Drive fast take chances!

I hope your foot recovers fully. Sorry to hear about your luck.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck, Froggy. Hope you heal quickly. There will always be another bike out there, but only one of you. Maybe you should take a little break....or not. Get back on the horse!

Please keep us informed as to what the dealer finds out with regards to the rear shock. That's some scary sheet! Hope it is due to the recent crashes, and not some sort of stress defect due to heavy/hard use.

So am I wrong in thinking the swing arm shock mounts are not supposed to fail during the life of the bike so... Am I the only one that thinks that if the rear swing arm shock mount caused the crash shouldn't Buell give him a new bike seeing that the broken one is probably totaled...

"Cause and effect, my love."

I think the history of recent, past, and continuous spills will come into play here. There is no way to know if there was a part defect or if the part was stressed beyond design parameters during lay downs.

Hey Froggy, didn't anyone ever tell you those full face helmets will break your neck in a crash?

You're risking your life wearing one of those!

Seriously though, is the upper shock mount still OK? if so it doesn't look like repairs will be all that hard or take that long.

I guess it could have been worse. The shock could have come up and given you a vasectomy.

Maybe you should take the winter off from motorcycling, go do some skiing or mountain climbing. You know, something safer.

Did it tear up your other gear, like your jacket, pants, gloves, and boots? Glad to hear you are OK!

Holy crap! Man, that's an argument for a full face helmet if I ever saw one! I think rear shock through the tire is probably the strangest freak bike accident I've ever heard of. Glad to hear you're alright, though.

About the helmet, as you can see i slid and rolled in every direction, as there are scratches going at just about every angle. As for my neck, it feels absolutely fine. To those that think it will break your neck, you would have more important things to worry about if you landed so hard that your neck broke.

I honestly don't know the state of the upper shock mount, as its buried in there. I assume that its fine, but i have no way to know for sure.

I got home and there was a message on my machine, it looking like they are gonna total it, but they are not 100% sure yet. : (
