Does any body have any detailed pictures of the caribou rack system with cases for the Uly? I wanted so see how they mount to the bike compared to other systems.

Uly guy has them, I have the caribos on the H&B bracket set up, pic on profile. They are a pretty slick setup and off more support in the event of a tip over than the stock Uly cases.

"They are a pretty slick setup and off more support in the event of a tip over than the stock Uly cases."

I highly disagree with the last part of that statement. The shape of the HB bags alone prevents a lot of damage or all damage in the case of many to the Uly on tip over. The thinner profile of the Pelicans will not keep as much of the bike off the ground. I had a low speed spin out showing how well the Uly did do U-turns and the only thing that touched ground was the rubber strip on the HB bag. I would have been replacing parts with the Pelicans. If you want to say that the Pelicans are of a higher quality than the HB's then that may be true. They may hold up better in a crash than the HB's too, but they will not protect the Uly as much just on shape alone.

"They may hold up better in a crash than the HB's too, but they will not protect the Uly as much just on shape alone."-Jmhinkle

I think he meant that it was a much stronger set up by "more support."
I have seen many stockers and one Pelican/Caribou set up, and you can trust me on this--the Caribous will hold up better in a crash, and offer more support.
They will do this by the strength of their design, and not "just on shape alone."

I will admit that this is just my opinion, and I have not scientifically tested this. I have seen the HB's break from overstuffing , and have wiggled both of the rackmounts. The Caribous just seem a little bit stronger.

Here is the bad part, I am pretty sure the Caribous weigh more when empty and are less aerodynamic. I don't mind weighing mine if we need to compare them. if I remember correctly, I weighed the whole system when I first got it at 32 pounds, but that was several months ago, so I am not sure.

I am very happy with mine, but if I am going to be riding on loose dirt or rocky ground all day, I prefer to be unloaded of the bags. They don't seem to make as much of a difference on the street.

Here are some pics.

caribous

bags

good racks

do you right uh huh

Oh, by the way, I went down Saturday before last, on a very slick algae covered concrete watercrossing with about 9" of moving water flowing by. I went down at about 4 mph I think.
This sounds weird, but there was no damage or scuffing to the rack. I was riding without the bags mounted. I don't think the rack even came into contact with the ground.
I scuffed the bar end, the frame protector puck, bent one of the touratech footpegs (bent it back), and scuffed my Micron pipes.
No problemo. Scuffs I can deal with.

My buddy who was riding with me, also on a Uly, had about the same wreck later in the day. He had a little worse luck, breaking the footpeg/subframe/mount on the right side, as well as the scuffs.
His was a rental Uly ... DAMN!!

I don't know if it would have been better or worse to have the bags on in this instance. ??

I don't think my buddies rental Uly had racks on it at all.

I reread your post and now I think I understand a little better what you were saying. I might have misunderstood you, the first time I read the post.
The fact that the HB's are wider, means in some instances, that, by their (wider) shape alone, they might offer more protection than the Pelicans by keeping more of the bike off the ground in a layover.
I think I got your point, now.
I can follow that logic.

I had the Uly bags but after two latches breaking I took them back to the dealer and got the Caribous. The rack system is better because it is in segments and can be easily adjusted whereas the Buell rack had to be stretched to fit (a pain). The Carbous are solid and easier to take on and off. They can be thrown around where as the Uly's are more dainty. The Caribous are also exactly the width of the handlebars. I am very happy with the Caribous because they are dependable and I can transfer them to my KLR when I get a rack for it. They can't hold my helmet like the Uly bags can.

Chadleys1,

That is all I was saying. I even said that the quality of the Pelicans is probably higher and they would hold up better in a crash, just not offer as much protection for the bike. I could never own them for two reason. 1) They won't hold my helmet and 2) I don't think they are an attractive solution at all. My Brother has them on his Uly though.

Who with the Pelicans notices large amounts of wind blast with them on especially on the highway?

I can only speak from experience with the HP bags - but after low-siding at 60 mph on asphalt, I've got no complaints. They make for an expensive set of sliders but they are durable and effective. No broken/bent shift levers or footpeg, though the slide ground off about half the little ball at the end of the clutch lever

plus I hate to be a priss, but damn the pelican bags are ugly. kinda like slapping a car-top carrier from Target on a Porsche

MidnightRider. Glad you are OK. As for the Pelicans I think they match the bike perfectly. The Uly is nasty, Mad Max looking so the Pelicans look like armer to me. The HP's look good but not trustworthy.

I think the HD bags are pretty good. I have logged over 22,000 miles on mine. they have survived hundreds of miles fully loaded of really nasty off road, including jumping water bars. a few tip overs. never had any problems. never broken a latch or anything. also I think they look great. some day when they do break I will probably get the aluminum boxes.

Here's a pretty descriptive thread that goes into a lot of detail. Ran across this last week. I haven't decided how I'm going to outfit mine yet...
