Well, I got the notion that I'd like to get another Uly. They are rare in my part of the country but I did find one at a nearby dealer.
It's an 06 rental bike with 900 miles. I can get it for $8400 out the door.
Sounds good to me. What do you all think?

Do you get the 2 year new warranty with the bike?

No, since it's been registered (put into service) I'll get the remaining balance of the warranty.
Just over a year.

For that price I would try to get the dealer to throw in an extended warranty, of at least a year, longer if you can get them to play.
Other wise sounds like a deal to me.

In my opinion the engine and other upgrades on the 07 and later models are worth holding out for an 07 or an 08.

2008 Uly Base Price: $11,495.00

Based on some sort of reasonable depreciation, the 2007 models should be selling somewhere between $8500 and $9000...the 2006 models should be selling between $7000 and $7500.

If you're really interested in that 06, offer $7500 out the door. Depending on how Uly friendly the dealer is, you may be the first buyer in months to seriously look at that bike.

As wonderful as Buells are, they come with notoriously poor resale values. Furthermore the entire used scoot market is quite soft given the number of new ones that have been sold over the past handful of years.

I think Old mil made a valid point. and after I spent so much time in the service department with my 06, I think the price would have to be below $4,500 before I would look at it again

My last Firebolt was 23k in 12 month, Uly was as much fun to ride but only got 15k in on it in 12 months why? It was all the time at the dealer for stupid little stuff

Ditto what Brad said. To top it off, it was a Rental bike at that. Scary if you ask me. I almost bought a demo bike with 700 on the ODO and when I started it up to ride home, the oil pump failed. That should have been the first warning. Run away fast.

The $8400 OTD equates to about $7700 after subtracting sales tax. It's also about $4300 less that an 08 would be OTD.
Even if I buy a used bike from a private party I will have to pay sales tax at DMV.
$7700 seems like a pretty good price for a bike with 900 miles considering what folks are asking here and on ebay for their Ulys.
I'll see if the dealer will throw in a 1000 mile service before taking delivery.

Be careful though because Rental vs privately owned means two totally different things in how the bike was treated this far in it's life. Usually. I would much rather spend $4300 more on a new '08. If that is too much to you, there are still a ton of 0 mile '06 and '07's around that won't cost you much more than the Rental bike. I personally cannot recommend a Buell that does not come with the full 2 year warranty at a minimum.

I got my 06 about a year ago for $7600 OTD and could not be happier. I have done a host of mods and bought a VDSTS and I am still have not spent as much as I would of when buying new. $8400 is not a bad deal if the bike is in as new condition. I break my bikes in hard and have never had any issues so the fact that it is a rental would be of no concern to me. I say buy it and ride it with the big grin in place.

I'd say for sure they've built in 400 bucks for you to dicker down. That way you feel good and they get the 8000 they feel they need out of the bike. Offer them 7800 out the door price and when they counter offer it'll be your turn to lay the law down at 8000 OTD. Maybe they'll jump at the 7800 OTD if you look like you mean it.

2006 Uly on Craigslist

This is not my bike and I have no idea whose it is, but I think it's a great deal with all that's included so I thought I post it here for comparative purposes.

The seller has already lowered the asking price from $8800 to $8200.

...there you go CliffB, Tipsy's got a lead for you...and quite a few extras. You could probably waltz off with that one for $7800 and it has hard bags and many extras.

Tell the dealer to throw in a set of bags and they got a deal. See what happens, they might just do it.

Well, I've got a lot to think about. I'll be looking at the rental Uly today. I've also emailed the owner of the Uly on Craigslist.

Thanks gents.

Went and looked at the rental Uly today. As expected it looks like new. 902 miles. I haven't talked money yet but the salesman has already offered to throw in the 1k service and I'll get the full 2 year warranty.
Sidestand and BAS recall is done.

I'm probably going to pass on the Craigslist bike. The extra stuff makes it tempting but all stock parts were tossed and no warranty left.

Get that full two years & 1k service in writing.

Push for the bags..

At a minimum I would tell them to give me a 07 seat as an extra.

That's about what mine cost, including CA. "use tax" (on$8500) and tag in May/06.

You decide...

Looks like they are already starting to deal and you havn't even started talking about price. You have a 2 full years from date of your purchase and 1K service (get them in wrting) now I would go with what electraglide is talking about on price or go with the bags as others have mentioned (I would just go with the side bags because I think they look good and the rear bag when not on the rack junks up the rear of the bike), then ask for dealers price on some of the extras such as the back pack for the back rest or whatever such as 07 springs, air box cover etc. On my deal I got bags tossed in with no mark up 1k service and also dealeers price on lower seat, tall screen and also race ecm if I wanted it. Seems like you may have a good deal working for you. Good luck

I went to the dealer to ride the Uly today. I couldn't because it was on the lift getting the 1k service done. The mechanic working on it said everything looked good. While it was on the lift I noticed what appeared to be scratches on the finish of the rear shock coil spring. Not really scratches, more like black marring on the finish. I asked how that happened. No one knew. Strange.. Just a thought, is that something that could have happened while the BAS recall was being done?

It seems this bike was never registered so it is going to be sold as new with full warranty.
I admit I'm not quite sold yet. I'm wondering if it would be worth while to wait until spring and buy a new 08.
On the other hand I would be getting what is essentially a new bike with full warranty for about $7500 + tax.

Decisions, decisions..

If all you are being offered is a 2 year warranty and the 1,000 mile service, I'd hold out for the 2008.

Well, I've decided to hold out for an 08. Just called the salesman to let him know. Winter is coming and there is no reason I can't find an 08 in the spring.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Cliffb,
The 06' is a great bike but the 08' is the smarter move.
