The Uly does use a version of the 1125 forks. Of course the internal spring rates are different for the Uly then the 1125. Btw, for you guys with the 43 mm lower triples (2005 – present XBs, if my memory serves), the 47 mm forks will fit. The OD of the 47s is the same as the 43s.

just brainstorming...

So if we use the 08 triple trees with our 07 Uly forks which don't have the rear offset lowers, we would gain a little distance between the tire and the engine? Maybe if we remove the chin fairing in addition, we might have clearance for a 19" front wheel, and all the cool tires that come with that. ???

I know I know... the Ulysses is a finely tuned sportbike, and we would be ruining the racebike steering geometry.

Some of the guys would say " hey dude, we are not using that racebike steering geometry when we are bouncing that little front tire up, down, and side to side on a rocky washout rutted road at 12000 feet altitude."

My real opinion is that once the Uly people finally figure out how to make the Uly's better off road than the GS's(they are already better on the street), the new 1125R Ulysses style Buell will come out and leave them wanting it REAL BAD.

What if our favorite brilliant genius engineering team at Buell is designing a lightweight sport adventure tourer right now with a 19 inch front, and a rotax 1125 motor, a frame that holds close to 6 gallons of gas, dirtbike wheel bearings with dual seals, an even longer suspension, and has an exhaust system that really is as strong as a dirtbike skidplate?

It could happen.

Anybody know what a set of 08' ULY triple trees cost?

I suppose the '08 forks could be fitted to '06/'07 trees and turned around to move the offset to the front to give more clearance. or
Use '08 trees and forks turned around for even more clearance.

Using the 08 trees with the 43mm forks sounds good and I have been kicking it around. Other then slowing the steering response down some what other changes will it cause in handling? Using the 08 trees will put the way the wheel turns out front of the natural pivot point of the trees. Will it cause the bike to catch the front wheel and flip easier?

I believe that if you rotated the right fork around, the caliper would no longer mate with the rotor properly or at all. I haven't seen actual documentation stating the '08 still has progressive springs. The best bet may be the '08 trees with the 06/07 forks and 07 springs.

What I was describing (not very well) would involve swapping the forks left to right.
The relationship between the rotor and the caliper would not change, other than they would now be on the left side of the bike. And, pointing the other way.
Doing this would require a new custom brake line and custom fender mounting, though.
(not saying it's good, or easily do
able, only possible)

A few points to consider.

Flipping the 08 forks backwards to push the wheel out further would put the caliper in a prone position in front of the forks rather than behind.

Using the 08 trees with the earlier forks would shorten the trail a little. This is not a good idea for someone trying to get a more dirt oriented bike. It already turns in a little too fast for the dirt, but it is fun.

The 08 trees with the forks flipped would make the caliper prone, AND make the trail even shorter.

Swapping to a 19" front wheel would take the trail out a LITTLE bit.

To run a 19 inch front and all the cool tires that would allow, most would want a little MORE trail for stability.

One problem with running a 19" front wheel would be losing our cool perimeter brake.

Everybody keep on thinking.
Sooner or later someone will figure out an easier way of doing it.

At this time, I think a set of custom cut trees and custom built front wheel with brake and caliper, along with a custom made front caliper mount adapter is the only way we could run a 19" front on a Uly while retaining an acceptable measure of trail.

Depending on how much of that you can fabricate, it would be expensive. I could do some of it, but I don't have a lathe big enough to cut triple trees.

... just brainstorming
