not sure if this is the correct place to post this(and yes i'vs done a search), but i had to add oil in my 06 uly for the first time the other day. after putting in a few oz of castrol 20/50, the stick appeared 'bubbly'. looked the same after a short ride. is this a cause for concern? thx for the help.

No need to worry. The bubbles are caused by oil circulation and if you pull the stick out right after shut down it will be bubbly. I usually wait about three to five minutes after shut down to check the oil so that it has time to settle.

Mine is happiest with the oil level at the bottom two X's. If I fill it higher it will make the higher amount disappear. At the lower level it will stay there and not use or loose any oil between changes.

Thx for the help. Not wanting to start anything here, but i'm new at the uly ownership thing and still learning the bike. I was under the assumption that oil should be checked hot and immediately after shutdown with no wait. I see you have a different technique...

Yes, it needs to be completely warmed up, on level ground, on the side stand. I find the best time to check it is when I fuel up. I put the gas in and then check the oil level.

Wait 3-5 min. after shutdown before checking. I've found that checking the oil immediately after shutdown shows a way low reading.

When you change your oil DONOT use the book specs on torque for the oil plug!!

Look into the knowledge vault before changing your tires for good info on protecting the bearings and axles.

Etennuly, what is a good torque spec for the drain plug. I torqued it by the book last time. I have never used a torque wrench on any bike for the oil drain plug, but I did this time for some reason. I'm glad I didn't bugger it up.

Must be you have a newer modified book or you would be posting in a different light!

I believe my owners manual and my BSM says 29 ft. lbs. I honestly don't know what the correct torque spec is, but I know a man who is waiting to get his bike back from having the swing arm replaced under warranty because the book was wrong.

I just tighten mine with a box wrench until my wrist or elbow clicks(which ever comes first). It has an "O" ring seal and teflon tape on the threads so actually tightening is a matter of it staying in place rather than having a pipe thread that needs to really tighten hard to seal.

I can testify that the 29ft/lbs is WAY too much. I stripped my out using a torque wrench. I had to put in a TimeSert to repair it. Now I coat the drain plug with high temp thread sealant and install a new O ring and just snug it up a bit.

Not sure what the correct number is but I put 25 ft lbs on the tq wrench for my first change and didn't even get that to click before it felt tight enough and I stopped.

No teflon tape here, but I use yamabond, like the prescribed loctite but yamaha label 'cause I already have it.
