I feel like a freakin dingbat but I can't remember what the difference is in the Uly wheels and the lightning wheels? the dimensions are the same but there is something I can't remember......is it the mounting distance between the forks?

Not as beefy, the Ulys are re-enforced for the DS aspect of the bike. I think.

I've not powder coated my wheels,I sprayed mine (well my back anyway-while the wheel was off for a new tyre-the front I'll do when it comes off for the new tyre).

I read somewhere (quite likely here) that as the wheels are powder coated already all you need to do to spray them is to lightly 'key' the surface with 'scotchbrite' and spray with regular acrylic auto paint (I used matt black 'rattlecan' paint and got a good result-for a ratbike it's fine anyway).
It remains to be seen how the paint survives a tyre change but as mine is a ratUly it doesn't matter too much.

The R/S wheels are nearly identical. The only difference is the thickness of the casting in the spokes. There is about 1 lb more metal in the Uly wheels. I am currently running both Uly and R wheels with no problems.

I don't do any DS.

ok cool. I'd like to swap the anodized blue rims onto my bike. since mine is a road warrior anyway I don't see where it would hurt. does anyone else?

I think you're good. I use two sets of wheels because it makes tire swaps easier.

ChadHargis uses a set of Black R wheels for track days.
